The Brunswick Vaults — Restaurant in Liverpool

Large room, plenty of tables. 2 cask beers (White Rat, Higsons) and a cask cider when I visited, 5 handpumps. Beer quality fine. Sky sports. I’m not going to judge the atmosphere based on a Saturday afternoon, but at that time it probably had more customers than most pubs in the area.

Hope they do well, this pub has been through so many hands in the last 10 years - The Brunswick was an unloved, run down place, then taken over and renamed The James Munro, a disaster which was neither a restaurant (limited food choice, not particularly luxurious) or a pub (the tables were all set up for eating). Then new owners and an excellent manager made it into the best beer quality in Liverpool, with major effort getting beer from small breweries like Blackjack. This was too good to last, Marstons (pub owners) decided as they had improved to nearly breaking even they would be happy to sign a 3 year lease at double the rent. Not correct. After a few months closed it reopened pretending to be the same, but with 1 handpump in operation serving something unexceptional. Then it became a LGBT+ showbar (hope you like our new direction), which seemed to be doing well in the evenings for a few years, and good luck to them. Now this after another spell closed. It’s not a great location - there’s closer pubs to Moorfields, there’s no shops in the road, there’s not a lot of people passing by. From the moment we booked, Katie was incredibly helpful in arranging everything for my sister’s 40th birthday, taking special care to accommodate her needs and disability.

Last Saturday evening turned out to be the most wonderful experience for her. The staff were amazing, and Aaron was exceptionally kind, helpful, and welcoming. The musician created a great atmosphere, and we all felt so special.

Even the other guests in the pub showed such warmth and kindness – it was a true reminder of the best of humanity.
