My wife and I had the pleasure of spending a relaxing Sunday at The Gore Hotel, dining in the elegant and historic setting of 190 Queen’s Gate, and it was truly a memorable experience.
The ambience is warm, refined, and full of old-world charm, setting the perfect tone for what turned out to be an exceptional meal crafted by award-winning Chef Frederick Forster.
Chef Forster brings a contemporary twist to the classic British Sunday roast, using only the finest ingredients, and every dish we tried reflected both artistry and precision.
For starters, I had the Loch Duart Smoked Salmon with Marinated Hass Avocado. The salmon was incredibly fresh, rich in flavour yet delicate, and paired beautifully with the creamy, ripe avocado — a simple combination elevated by quality and presentation.
My wife chose the Green Asparagus & Goat Cheese Salad with a vibrant Piquillo Pepper Purée. The asparagus was tender with just the right crunch, and the tangy goat cheese was smooth and luxurious. The real surprise was the pepper purée — sweet, smoky, and bursting with flavour, it tied the dish together perfectly.
For mains, we opted for the Roasted 28-day Aged Beef Ribeye and the Corn Fed Chicken Crown with Herb Butter. The beef was wonderfully tender, cooked medium with a depth of flavour that only proper ageing and roasting can provide.
The chicken was juicy and fragrant, with the herb butter adding a savoury richness that made each bite delightful. Both dishes came with all the traditional trimmings — crisp, fluffy roast potatoes, sweet maple-glazed carrots, a giant, golden Yorkshire pudding, and a generous pour of rich, comforting gravy. It was a roast dinner done to perfection. And it’s worth noting that halal options are available, which was ideal for us.
To finish, we shared two exquisite desserts. The White Chocolate Rhubarb Tart was a wonderful contrast of textures and flavours — buttery pastry, creamy white chocolate filling, and tart rhubarb that cut through the sweetness beautifully. The Pavlova was light and airy, topped with velvety vanilla cream and a red berries compote that added a fresh, tangy burst. A perfect end to a perfect meal.
A special thank you to Marius and Andreea, who provided impeccable service throughout. They made us feel welcome and taken care of, adding a personal touch that made the afternoon even more enjoyable.
If you're looking for a place in London that combines fine dining, outstanding service, and a historical setting, The Gore Hotel is an experience not to be missed. We left, already...
Read moreI made a reservation for two to celebrate my husbands birthday. On the website when making the reservation you can mention the special occassion. Assuming a small attention will follow, otherwise why ask for it. We were received kindly and got a table in the far corner of the room, meaning one of us was not facing the restaurant, which is a shame as the restaurant is a beautiful room. We choose the 2 course menu and the plate we asked for was sold out, we were offered the ribeye instead with french fries, same dish as offered on the barmenu. The bottle of wine we ordered was also not available anymore, nowhere to be found. So we ordered another bottle. The meat was good, but nothing out of the ordinary, the dessert was also good. The waiter was very friendly and helpful, but not having the dish offered on the menu and the wine on the winecard, and charging us for a three meal course, which was adjusted, and also being charged for the bottle of wine we never had, which was a few pounds more expensive than the one we had is a bit disappointing. And there was no special attention for the birthday. Nevertheless we had a lovely evening but with some details which could have...
Read moreWorst value for money ever… It just seemed to be the right place for a special occasion dinner with my partner, after Prom 74 at The Royal Albert Hall. We went for the pre-set menu, 2 courses: starter & main. Everything was pricey, but we were prepared to it, after all a brilliant location and a charming atmosphere come at a price… Yes, indeed, but not at that rip-off price! Pea soup, too green to be “traditional” and/or “natural” with a quenelle of white foam that I suppose is what they call “modern twist”. My partner ordered a so called “risotto” and let me say, as Italian, when I saw it, I had half a shock … My God what was that? Over-cooked/melted rice in a primordial soup… I couldn’t decide between laughing or crying. I was really pleased having ordered my 7 cm2 of pan-fried Haddock – served, again, with previously mentioned “twist”. What about the wine? Decent, indecently priced though: 30 pounds for 2 glasses… Definitely disappointing place. The worst value for money ever paid so far. And they even charge 15% for service…...
