We have been to Bar 190 a few times before prior to concerts at the Albert Hall, but never have we been spoken to or treated in the appalling manner that we were last night (June 12th). We entered the bar and enquired with the barman about a table, who paused, looked around, and said “sorry we don’t have any free tables”- we didn’t argue, but thought it was odd as there were a number of unreserved tables free and bookings available online when we’d checked a few minutes earlier. So, we went out onto the front steps, instantly booked a table for 2, then returned to the bar to be met with two barmen (one quite aggressively) telling us that “we are full! There is no space for you”. I tried to tell them we had a booking, and only when a third bartender (who was more apologetic) listened to us, was the time taken to find our booking, and showed us to one of the several tables that were free in the first place. My partner and I visit hotels and bars in London frequently due to business, and never have we been so appalled by the service. The very least we expect is an apology and an explanation as to why we were treated like this. In the meantime, I cannot recommend or return to The...
Read moreI was very unpleasantly surprised by what visually is a lovely bar. The service was exceptionally poor and unwelcoming. We had planned to have some drinks here before heading elsewhere in South Kensington.
On arrival we were greeted (sort of) by a woman who couldn’t have cared less about her customer service, our visit to her workplace was clearly a large burden and I found her general demeanour to be very rude and passive aggressive. One of her colleagues did however, swoop in to remedy the situation and accommodate us. Not a great start.
The disappointing atmosphere continued when we had to actively (but politely) flag down a member of staff after being ignored for 15 minutes in a bar that wasn’t particularly busy, to then make eye contact and attempt to order and be ignored several further times was a real shame, and felt very deliberate and unwelcoming, therefore we decided to leave after one drink.
This is the only time I have ever asked for a service charge to be removed after years of living in London because it was so substandard, particularly in comparison to the levels of service you experience elsewhere in...
Read moreWould give 0 stars if I could. Absolutely awful experience. The concierge almost didn't let us in even though we had a booking and he was stand offish. If you are not dressed in a tuxedo or a ball gown you will not be served. We pre-booked for my father-in-law's birthday and were shoved to the back of the venue out of view as we were not dressed to the nines.
Having waited 15 minutes for a server, we decided to go to the bar to order where we were blatantly ignored further. After 25 minutes we decided enough was enough and left. They did not care about their poor service and instead said "just open the door, we won't be offended".
There is more pomposity and snobbery than an episode of The Crown. For an establishment that prides itself on once hosting The Rolling Stones, they show no shared values with the band. I would never go again and would tell everyone to avoid this place...
