Aldgate Tap — Restaurant in London

Great bar, great service, and great beer. What isn't so great is the smell. I thought it was just an unfortunate patron had bad food poisoning, but I was then told by a friend who knows the smell well as he previously worked in bars, that it's actually the smell of dead rats. It immerses the whole bar area, and gets to the back of your throat.

Given I was there for several hours, my theory of somebody having terrible guts was cast aside to the new theory.

The owners definitely need to check this out! It would be a terrible shame if people stopped coming because the smell got that bad.

I gave 3 stars mainly because the staff, the service and the beer were great, but the smell I just can't see past....

I love the look of the structure, modern industrial style that reminds me of a sharks head when viewed from a distance. Their beer selection is refined and safe. Very similar to the other tap sites around London . They have something for everyone , well apart from drinkers looking for something stronger such as an imperial stout or barleywine that is. They were showing the football on a big screen and at the time of my visit it wasn't overly busy. Worth a visit if...

So the venue looks good and it had a great outdoor feel to it. The staff not though, the Angela Raynor look alike was seriously rude, as were the other staff on the bar, which was somewhat a shame as there wasn't a need to be so hostile! Shan't be returning, and wouldn't recommend this place as there's loads of other bars nearby with a friendlier service!
