In the heart of Fitzrovia, Alex Coffee is a quietly impressive gem that delivers not just a cup of coffee, but an elevated, thoughtfully curated experience. Nestled just off the bustle of Great Portland Street, this independent café stands out with a harmonious blend of artisan quality, minimalist elegance, and genuine hospitality.

☕ Coffee Quality & Menu

The coffee here is the true highlight—expertly brewed, full-bodied, and impeccably balanced. Whether you’re in for a classic flat white, a single-origin filter, or a seasonal special, every cup reflects a deep understanding of specialty coffee. The beans are clearly sourced with care, and the baristas display both precision and passion. Milk is steamed to perfection, and espresso shots are rich without bitterness.

In addition to coffee, they offer a selection of fresh pastries, light snacks, and alternative milks, catering to both purists and those with dietary preferences.

🪟 Ambience & Aesthetics

Alex Coffee boasts a clean, modern interior that is both welcoming and uncluttered. With natural light pouring in from the front windows and soft, neutral tones dominating the decor, the space encourages moments of calm reflection or focused work. Seating is limited but well arranged, maintaining an intimate, relaxed vibe. It’s an ideal stop for both a quiet solo break and casual business chats.

💬 Service

The staff are consistently professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm—a rare combination. Even during busy hours, they take the time to explain the coffee offerings or recommend something based on your preferences. This level of customer care adds a layer of hospitality often missing in high-traffic urban cafés.

🧼 Cleanliness & Standards

The entire premises are spotless, from the counters to the seating area. Attention to hygiene is clearly a priority, which enhances the overall experience and gives confidence in the establishment’s standards.

💷 Value

While prices are in line with central London coffee shops, the quality and care you receive at Alex Coffee make it feel like good value. You’re not just paying for a drink—you’re investing in a few moments of well-crafted peace and quality.

✅ Final Verdict

Coming to Alex’s place is almost one of the best kinds of coffee experience one can have, because of the own/barista, Alex.

This mini cafe is very small, simple and clean interior, which forms a very intimate touch of hospitality. Sitting here almost feels like sitting in someone’s kitchen while the host, in this case the barista, is very personable and enthusiastic to coffee.

Not only using its own roast beans to brew various coffee offerings, but also providing a special mix of vegan milk with oat and brown rice, I think Alex has made an extra mile, which stands out from the crowd of third wave coffee shops in London.

It is definitely worth to pay some extra efforts to find this well-hidden gem just off Oxford Street, not that many people actually know how nice this block is. I really hope the day it opens in weekends could...

Lucky find when on the prowl for somewhere to enjoy a morning espresso on my way to a meeting. Had a great chat with Alex whilst enjoying my coffee, great to understand what he's aiming to do and how he's differentiating himself from a lot of other independent coffee shops and roasters. His approach is moving away from the lighter roasts for espresso that often dominate, but without reverting to really old school dark roasts. The results are great: an espresso with lots of body and rounded flavour, not too much brightness or acidity. Ended up taking a couple of bags of beans (his own blend roasted by Red Bank) home with me to play with. Will definitely be stopping by again if I'm in the area. Highly...

One of the best coffee shops we have tried in London! We love everything there from the shop appearance, ambiance, hospitality to last but not least the Coffee! Alex (the owner) was so welcoming and friendly. We had a nice chat over the coffee culture and history. I decided to buy his special coffee bean for espresso and it was sooooo good! I love the aroma and the aftertaste of the espresso just lingering in your mouth. Thank you Alex for your heart and passion in making/roasting your own coffee. Will definitely come back when we visit London next time! Highly recommended!

Amazing coffee and tea! I went with a friend and opted for a matcha tea, which was delicious and smooth. There weren't bits of matcha floating on the surface and the tea had the perfect amount of creaminess from the milk. Alex, the craftsman was friendly and knowledgeable on the products he was advertising, which helped with my order. It was clear from speaking to him, that he knew precisely what he wanted from his business, and that was evident from the quality taste and aroma of the coffee and tea. I strongly recommend if you're passing by for a short stop!
