We were in the area and the menu looked nice so we decided to have lunch here. There was little service inside the restaurant and when we asked if they had Wi-Fi, I was told by a waitress that they had lost the password. Weird, should have been foreboding. We ordered bruschetta, Caesar salad, and chips. The service took very, very long. Over an hour. We were sat right next to the service lift, where food was brought up to staff. And we looked inside, appalled. It was absolutely filthy. Pieces of food and brown stains, it looks like it had not been cleaned in years. It looked truly nasty. We felt sick. The ledge next to our tables was also very dusty and dirty. We had been eyeing the cannolis out in the front of the shop, but then we didn’t get them because they were noticed that people kept coming very close to them, coughing and laughing facing them, and they were not covered. Our food also sat in the lift for a good 10 mins as the waiters didn’t know what table it was for. The bruschetta was sad, not worth £7. Barely toasted baguette slices, no signs of basil. The chips needed a lot of salt. However, the worst dish was the Caesar salad. No croutons, no parmesan. The lettuce tasted bitter and like it was expired and old. The chicken tasted like it had been frozen - it had no taste, needed seasoning. It was in tiny strips, probably 4 in the entire salad (less than half a chicken breast) and it was overcooked and awful. The sauce was not that nice. Not worth £14. Really bad quality. Did not pay service charge given how slow the service was. Yet even without it, to have to pay £24 for such awful food quality was eye-watering. Never again. The waiters also did not seem to take their jobs seriously....
Read moreI visited the Amarcord Museum restaurant on Sunday 19 December with five colleagues from work. The servers were very friendly and the ambience was pleasant. From there it all goes downhill. We were expecting generous, hearty, homecooked food and unfortunately received minimalist dishes that were improperly prepared, and not reflecting the description on the menu. We received dishes that we had not ordered. And remarkably we received dishes that were not on the menu. We were also charged on the bill for dishes that we never received. The portions were small to moderate which was a blessing considering most of the meals were incorrect, undercooked, bland and tasteless. One of the meals ordered by two of the guests was meant to be tagliatelle with gorgonzola and nuts. They received a dish with no cheese or nuts in sight and the sauce on the pasta was cold. I ordered the cheese board and was then told by the restaurant that there was no cheese left. They still tried to charge us for the cheese board on the bill. But at least we solved the mystery of the 'no-cheese' tagliatelle dish. Four guests ordered the crostini and ended up with a type of flatbread that was not on the menu. And it was obvious that other guests on other tables were experiencing similar problems. It was a comedy of errors from beginning to end. They did remove the service charge from the bill. I fear the best days of this restaurant are long gone but if anyone has some nostalgia for 'Fawlty Towers', Basil is alive and well in the Amarcord...
Read moreI visited this restaurant on a Sunday night with a friend and had high expectations given the French-Italian cuisine. We ordered Verdure Miste, Ravioli di Ricotta e Spinaci, Gnocchi Sorrentina, and Crostini al Formaggio during their last order around 9:45 PM. The food arrived around 10:05 PM and, I must say, it was delicious — no complaints there.
However, there were a few things that left me disappointed. The food was brought to us in the same lift that also carried dirty plates, which felt unhygienic and took away from the dining experience. Additionally, unlike most French-Italian restaurants I’ve been to, we weren’t offered any complimentary bread, which I’ve come to expect as part of the experience.
After we finished eating, no one followed up promptly to offer the bill. I had to go outside and ask for it, and even then, it took 10 minutes to receive — despite the restaurant not being busy at that time.
While the food was excellent, the service and attention to detail fell short of expectations. With some improvements to service and hospitality, this place could...
