READ my suffering if you have 2 minutes. In 26th April , Me and my friend we came to the bar early around 7 because we like to have a chair to enjoy the nite.the staff told us we can choose any empty tables for the whole nite , we take the closest one to the DJ. We ordered two bottles of wine and everything is fine until one male manager came and say he will move our chairs away because this is their POLICY, we were very confused about what a policy is to force customers standing for the whole nite? And we like to keep the chairs cuz we are drinking and dancing so we can rest and talk, also we came earlier to the place for having chairs. He was like he is the manager here, this is HIS bar, he just remove the chairs without our permission. After all, when I was trying to talk to the staff there, the Manager he came cross and interrupted, stopping me talking to the staff, and said’ You are acting rude, just finish your bottle and leave!’ …: this is my story in this place. I wont draw a conclusion with Racism or Rudeness or Unfairness, I don’t think they care about our feelings and consumer’s rights, i am sharing this because we did nothing wrong or inappropriate or even say a bad word, I want other people to know how unstable, unfriendly, unreasonable and unprofessional they are, can we trust the place is secure enough for a good time? Can we trust they provide us trustful service and care ? Since we’re going there to drink, and alcohol can leave us helpless, fragile, and unaware, it’s all the more important to have a safe and reliable place where we can truly enjoy the moment. That was the worst experience for us in London ever, I hope it is not because we are Asian. Cuz I didn’t see any others’ chairs had been removed and we are the only Asians there. As someone who runs a restaurant and a bar, he must have plenty of experience and a hundred ways to handle situations like this — yet he chose the worst possible way. I honestly don’t understand what kind of boss would trust an employee like that. And if this bar actually belongs to him, it makes the whole thing even more frightening. Evil and wrongdoing are defined by having a ridiculous and small ‘POWER’ as being a MANAGER of the house, very...
Read moreMy mother visited this bar and gave me permission to post her review here. I’m absolutely appalled at the treatment from the staff discriminating against customers and hounding them until they leave. People need to know if you don’t look a certain way, or if you refuse to give up your coat, the doorman will make you feel like the scum of the earth for even daring to set foot in this establishment.
“I recently visited this cocktail and live music bar in Notting Hill, and I have mixed feelings about the experience. On the plus side, the singers were absolutely amazing. Their vocals were impressive and the atmosphere could have been wonderful. However, the enjoyment was heavily undermined by the persistent doorman who seemed more focused on managing coats than the guests. His attempts to tell people their attire was "tacky" felt unkind, and his approach left a sour taste. It’s important to remember that a little kindness goes a long way – we never know what someone might be going through.
The drinks were also a letdown in terms of value. £40 for three drinks, one of which was just soda, felt like a rip-off (however we appreciate this can be the standard price, it was more how we felt which was the rip off). That’s not even considering how quickly we felt the need to leave. The entire experience lasted only about 15 minutes, and it was the most expensive, short-lived 15 minutes in Notting Hill so far. If you’re an Instagram-friendly type, this place might be your scene – the aesthetic is definitely geared towards looking good, but if you don’t fit the mold, it feels like you’re being pushed aside.
The most uncomfortable part was the vibe that you need to meet a certain aesthetic to be welcomed. Being unkind, even with a smile, is still not okay. I hope the team takes note that while looking good on Instagram may draw a crowd, being kind and considerate is what really makes a place worth...
Read moreIt is with a heavy heart that I write this knowing that in the year 2022 when equality rights are being fought from all angles, racism is being endorsed in Nottinghill Gate the roots of the West Indian Carnival.
I believe in fairness & justice so I gave The Act ample time to respond to my allegation of the discrimination my Mother & I received on their premises. It took the exposure, the outcry of the public and 10 solid days to get an acknowledgement from a Keith who claims to be the Co owner via email. This email apologised for the "miscommunication" of our understanding of the waitress telling us "The Manager said you have to pay for your food now as people run away without paying" . He also iterated that "It is Our policy" . I replied him that I saw multiple white people (we were the only black people there) pay with their individual cards from their numerous pockets and bags at the end of their stay. In my reply I asked him if this policy applies to only coloured people . I am yet to recieve a response from him despite the lengthy post they recently issued on their social media. If you are genuinely unbiased you don't need 10 days and PR team to respond to an allegation.
As such we refused the offer from the manager to return for an evening on them, as I shared this experinece solely hoping that the owners would reassure me that what transpired that evening was not condoned by them. Alas it is an illusive endeavour on my part......."Res ipsa loquitur"
.. it is also fair to say that all previous reviews of outrage have been deleted. I believe everyone deserves to know the truth about this bar...
