Today I had lunch here; I tried the chicken on the bone, along with a skewer of koobideh.
It was very tasty and not greasy, and the rice came with some potato tahdig, which was great.
However, I experienced a sour note when it came to paying the bill; they added 20% VAT on top of the prices displayed on the menu. Be assured this was not merely showing a breakdown of the VAT but was in fact a 20% increase in price added on top of the prices displayed in the menu. I queried this with manager and I told him that it was uncommon for VAT not to be included in the price in a menu; he politely disagreed.
He also showed me a notice on the last page of the menu stating that VAT was not included in the prices. I also said it was not reasonable to expect people to see this notice, it being on the last page, a page that doesn’t even detail any food or drink, and he disagreed with me, claiming it is perfectly reasonable to expect people to read the entire menu, even an information page at the back.
I said it was a rather sneaky thing to not include VAT and he politely said he was offended at the suggestion. He said the way the restaurant has operated was completely above board.
I restated my point, saying he knows what the restaurant are doing and that it is out of order. He said what else could they do?
I said they could include the VAT in the prices in the menu (like most restaurants). He didn’t have a response to that.
I wish I had asked him: If you are not being sneaky, why would you not want to include the VAT in the prices in the menu?
I informed him that I will not be returning.
Upon investigation, it seems the restaurant are perfectly allowed to operate as they are, but it is not customary in my experience, and the fact the manager tried to suggest to me that it was, I felt was rather lacking in honesty and integrity.
Be aware, fellow diners! Naturally, I will stay true to my word and will not return, despite the...
Read moreIranian food tastes nothing like this. I’m not one to write bad reviews however everything was beyond awful, I’m not sure where to begin
1- FOOD) The chenjeh was far too dry and EXTREMELY salty which was disappointing especially considering how expensive it was. As soon as the waiter brought our dishes, I instantly realised they had used artificial food colourant on the rice (can potentially be dangerous) and there was no scent/aroma of saffron, whereas true Persian rice should have saffron, it’s the holy grail! However due to saffron bring rather expensive, I’m guessing they chose to go cheap and scam customers. It was anything but authentic. My daughter ordered fesenjoon and instead of using walnuts which is one of the main ingredients, they used something that looked like Brazilian nuts.
2- PRICE) For food that tasted so bland and poorly made (nowhere near up to the standard of Persian food I’ve tasted over the years), it was so very pricey, approximately double the price at other Persian restaurants I have been to in London. Had the quality of the food been of a better standard, I’d not be so offended by the hefty price but for what was put in front of me and my family, it was disgraceful. Later on, I came to find hair in my food which completely put me off I felt so disgusted that I lost my appetite.
3- SERVICE) The service overall wasn’t that bad, however the food took a whole hour until it was served there was not enough cutlery nor tissue.
4- CASH ONLY!) For a “luxury”, fine-dining restaurant, the fact that they only accepted cash from me was ridiculous and cheap. They said that their card machine isn’t working which is most likely a lie. Fortunately, I had enough cash on me but this is very unprofessional and thefty of them if I’m honest!
All I can say is that if you fancy some Persian food, avoid here and try elsewhere because this place is horrendous and even my friends have had a...
