Been to Blacklock Canary Wharf three times, twice we ate there, the third time walked out before taking a table, as the attitude from the guy seating customers was appalling.
The restaurant is hidden underneath the DLR railway lines,It’s dark inside and deceptively large. The kitchen is open to the restaurant, and cooking steaks makes a lot of smoke. It can be uncomfortable.
The restaurant appears to be generally popular with the student age group, and can get noisy.
Firstly the food : given how popular this place is you would think that the food was absolutely amazing.
It is not, the quality, cooking and presentation has been consistently poor on every visit.
The food we experienced was incredibly greasy, for some reason over salty, and strangely arrives at the table dried out and lukewarm, as if it’s been waiting ready and assembled on the plate for quite some time. Or had been left at the pass for too long, while the waiting stuff caught up to their orders.
On our first visit we ordered the burgers. An allergy to pickles was only caught by a waiter after the burgers I’ve been placed on the table. The fries were incredibly oily and salty, and the burgers so oily it was really hard enjoy them. if you have any concerns about your cholesterol levels, I really wouldn’t recommend the burgers here.
On our second visit, we decided to go for the meat platter, called the “All In” - this plateful of sharing food took well over 30 minutes to arrive, every single piece of meat served was dried out, incredibly everything tested exactly the same, all in all a totally disappointing experience.
Service was painfully slow. On both the occasions that we ate there, the waiters appeared disinterested in explaining the menu, as if it was completely tiresome to do so. ( The menu is a little convoluted, styled along “we do things differently“ Concept)
On our third attempt some months later, we arrived in between a family of three, and a group of five students behind us. The attitude of the greeter changed considerably after seating the family in front of us, and became so condescending, rude and dismissive to us, we decided to leave.
All in all, I am guessing this place doesn’t feel like it needs to really make any effort, and/ or is understaffed for the number of covers they do every seating.
From our experience I cannot think of any reason to...
Read moreFirst time here and I booked for my boyfriend's 30th as he had recently visited Meatopia where he had sampled some of their Sunday roast that they offered and said it wad amazing, so I had to book!
From start to finish, the service was impeccable. We sat down by the kitchen so got to see all the action and how hard the kitchen staff were working.
The gentleman who looked after us could not be faulted on his service. Not sure if he was a waiter/manager but unfortunately I forgot his name. But he was a lovely, Scottish man.
He explained how everything worked and went into detail about what the dishes contained and what they tasted like and gave his personal opinion. He was so informative and friendly and definitely seemed to enjoy his job.
The cocktails we had were very different, but lovely and strong! And the coffee porter was delicious.
The food was unreal. We went for the All In roast for 4 people and jesus, you got a lot. Mountain full of pork, beef, lamb, yorkshires, carrots, potatoes, cabbage?, and not to forget the unlimited gravy.
This stuff was like liquid crack. I could've drank it with a straw.
Even though the food was incredible, the staff were top tier too. Another tall gentleman, dressed in black with glasses, brought us our drinks everytime and was singing the cocktail names and just having a good time. We were laughing lots and really enjoying ourselves.
Even though we were stuffed, we made room for their bread and butter pudding. The fact that you can get ice cream and custard was great. It was delicious.
Oh and I mentioned about my nut allergy and the waiter was confident in knowing the menu and reassuring me that I was in safe hands. This really makes me feel at ease when restaurants know their stuff when it comes to allergens.
Just want to thank your staff again for looking after us and treating us like Kings and Queens. They really know how to have a good time aswell as giving amazing service.
Cannot wait...
Read moreBlacklock Canary Wharf delivered a roaring good roast for our group of four. The atmosphere was buzzy with a surprisingly laid-back vibe, a welcome change from the high-brow expectations surrounding their notorious booking difficulty. Even the rumbling Trainline couldn't dampen the warmth of the experience, providing an interesting (and thankfully inaudible) backdrop to our meal.
The mains were the undeniable stars. The roast beef was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, every succulent bite dripping with flavour. The pork was a revelation, a juicy triumph defying London's dry roast curse. But the true heroes were the Yorkshire puddings: crispy on top, soft and fluffy within, absolute perfection.
The supporting cast didn't disappoint either. The roasted carrots were seasoned to perfection, the crispy roast potatoes offered a delightful textural contrast, and the gravy was a flavour bomb, begging to be soaked up with every bite. Even the horseradish, though a tad too creamy, couldn't detract from the overall symphony of deliciousness.
At £25 per head for the All In roast, this feast felt like a steal for four. £190 for four happy tummies, a buzzy atmosphere, and food that sings on your tongue? I'll say cheers to that!
Highlights:
Outstanding Yorkshire puddings Perfectly cooked roast pork and beef Flavourful roast vegetables and gravy Buzzy and relaxed atmosphere Value for money for a group Minor quibble:
Creamy horseradish lacked sufficient bite Final verdict: Blacklock Canary Wharf isn't just about the hype. It's about celebrating the humble roast in all its glory, in a setting that's both lively and comfortable. Go hungry, bring friends, and get ready for a carnivorous experience you...
