Came here with my mum for her birthday, and we both absolutely loved it! I had a few questions prior to booking and the email responses I received from Skuna were so friendly and helpful. Then we had some timing hitches on the day of our booking due to a work conflict, and I was so touched at how much the employees really pulled through for us - from calling to check up on us once our time slot had begun and doing their best to extend our guided tour time on the water as much as possible. You can tell they employ a wonderful group of people who care so, so much about their customers.
I do have to say that Nathan our guide was who REALLY made the experience for us, and I don’t think it would’ve been half as fun had we not been paired up with him. He was very knowledgeable about the area and his commentary was positively hilarious! I thought it might be a bit awkward bobbing away for 30 mins with a stranger while having to make pained small talk haha - but it was wonderful! He somehow makes you feel like you’re a merry group of friends within literally 1 minute of meeting. Honestly him being our guide would be the make-or-break factor in booking again in the future, as he made the experience so fun for us.
The experience itself (we did the igloo boat) was seamless from start to finish. You go to the Skuna station by docks to be checked in and taken to your boat. Table is already pre set up (they even have speakers!) and fondue/chocolate is brought in, then your guide whisks you off for 30 mins on the water. It’s a fairly small quay, so you spend the first half hour driving around before docking for the remaining hour. You’re also offered some complimentary mulled wine (delicious!!) or hot chocolate - and they have a menu with even more options. And the food was delicious - the cheese naturally, but also surprisingly the potatoes, which were little buttery balls of heaven!
The igloo boat is covered but not completely airtight/sealed, so was a bit worried about the cold and brought a heated blanket, but they have hot water bottles on standby just in case. Turned out to be actually super comfortable in just a sweater and winter jacket in 10°C (50 F) overcast weather. It’d be amazing to try it out again on a sunny day, at sunset or at night when it’s all lit up!
LOVED the experience, loved our amazing tour guide and can’t wait to visit again next time...
Read more!!!Beware of this company!!!
I’ve been trying out new things to take family and friends to when they visit since moving to London. I must say this is the only bad experience I’ve had with any company in the 6 months I’ve lived here.
I was feeling sick and due to that was late to my appointment. I got there with 45 min left of our 2 hour reservation. They wouldn’t let us even hop in the boat for a few minutes despite charging us 180 pounds. I asked if we could get in for the remainder of our time? Nope. Could we reschedule to any other day? Even off peak. Nope. Could we get a partial refund since we didn’t get a service? Nope, but not just no-the man working said 5% of their sales come from people who are more than 15 minutes late and don’t get to go out on the water. 5%?!?! Cold and greedy business practices. If you book here, hope and pray nothing causes you to be more than 15 minutes late (like getting lost or an issue on the tube) because as the man working said-they will keep your money no matter how much-so the more people in your group the more you have to lose from a booking with this company.
There’s lots of fun things to do in London, but save yourself the stress on this activity. There are small businesses out here that value customers-this is not one of them.
Edit: their response has several inaccuracies, the most important being that they “remain open to resolving this.” They were not open to resolving it when I was at the location and the employee working said they were just going to keep my money and there was nothing that could be done about it. They were not open to resolution until I reported their messed up business practices. Additionally the threatening email I was sent from the company didn’t seem like much of a resolution. Apparently I’m not the only one who has had this issue with the business, and I wish I had read the other reviews...
Read moreReally great premise, but quite underwhelming. I had first seen the boats when walking past one day and thought my dad would love it for his 60th, so after looking on the website we booked. The website shows pictures of the BBQ boats on big, open water. This is completely misleading. The FAQ states the boats can go "around the west india quay dock". There are two cartoon maps on the website, and one shows a tiny section of the dock, and one shows the whole of the canary wharf docks. i studied them both but couldn't tell what the difference was. it turns out the bbq boat can only travel round a tiny section of the waters in canary wharf, which was disappointing, and wasnt clearly advertised, and i feel like we were misled with unclear descriptions, and pictures of boats in water that are not anywhere near canary wharf.
The customer service and the boats themselves were great.
We brought our own food and were told online that the boats provided "everything you need" for a bbq. That translated to a half melted plastic spatula and tongs. No spray oil. No metal utensils or oven glove (as pictured), no knife. no mixing bowls or anything. im not sure what kind of bbq they expect people to be bringing, but it was not sufficient. we had to slice tomatos with the plastic cutlery we were given.
We also had to pay £1 each for plate/cutlery set, which was expected. but it was a paper plate and a flimsey knife and fork each which we spent the whole time holding down so they wouldnt blow away in the wind.
With people paying at least £15 (in our case £30pp), a little clearler and non-deceptive advertising would have helped, and providing actual bbq equipment so we can actually feel like adult humans cooking a bbq on a boat, rather than animals, ripping food with our hands, burning our hands and spilling food all over oursevles because the plates were so cheap...
