We rode the afternoon tea bus today and it was a delightful experience. We boarded at Victoria Station, it had a little but chaos because a Harry Potter and both Tea Busses were boarding at the same time. The staff quickly removed the chaos by circulating the room and separating out the tea bus riders and getting them to the correct location.
You have preassigned seats on the bus that you picked out so, everyone pretty much knows where they are going when they get to the bus. We paid extra for the VIP front seat upstairs and it was worth it. Both us were able to face forward and talk without interrupting the tables around us.
Each table was preset with the menu selection, that was made at time of purchase, and was beautifully presented. It was difficult not to jump into the dessert first, but we held off. There were drink choices served in the lidded cups to rotect the passengers from the bumpy road.
We chose the traditional afternoon teas menu. Savoury Mushroom quiche, Cucumber, cream cheese & mint finger on basil brea, Turkey ham & cheese, mayo mustard finger on tomato bread, Feta, tomato & red pepper savoury muffinsand cucumber pretzel with cream cheese
Our highlight was the sweet desserts, they were great from the Passion fruit & white chocolate pannacotta to the Strawberry & yuzu tart to the little but dry Orange & poppy seed cupcake and the macaroons stuffed with chocolate. My favorite however were the hot, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam.
The Classic Bus was the icing on the cake, there is a bit of bounce and your silverware might slide from time to time, but the serving trays and plates had non stick material underneath so that things would stay in place.
The staff was very attentive and had the next items ready before you knew you were ready for it. We did both hot and cold tea over the 90 minutes, and there were options of hot chocolate, coffee, water and the prepaid alcohol options of champaign.
The narration was good. It would not be a tour to learn a bunch, it points out the sites and isn't intrusive to the experience. Music from all the eras play throughout the trip. Passengers at the end were singing along to the classic tunes of Sweet Caroline, YMCA, and Pretty Woman.
We had a great afternoon celebrating friendship and had high expectations and they exceeded them. It was a bit spendy, but it will be a lasting memory that we will keep with us forever.
Remember to not book something directly after the tour. London traffic can be unpredictable and we were back at about the...
Read moreI have used Brigits Bakery bus as a private hire for my wedding and had 3X tours with them ever since, taking friends along to enjoy the London views as part of their London Pride and Christmas tours.
When we used their services for the wedding, the team allowed us to leave goodie bags on everyones seats, the table planning took all of 10 minutes and they turned up on time, picked us up from the venue where we got married and dropped us back off at the hotel after the tour. Ver easy to book, responded quickly to queries and would recommend their private hire service. The food was similar to that of the regular tours, same quantity and they do take in to account various dietary requirements. The BB's travel cup was a nice souvenir for our guests to take away from their London trip (many lived abroad).
The London Pride and the Christmas tours had a similar atmosphere, although you are obviously with others you don't know, however you are on your own table. I like the views from either the front top deck or the second table in on the passenger side (rather than driver side) on the top deck, as you get the most of the sights. Champagne, mulled wine and prosecco can be added on for some journeys, however hot drink options are provided on all tours, with a travel mug to take away. You don't tend to get a top up on your hot drinks, but I imagine you could if you asked. The baked goods slightly vary, however essentially you will end up with the same types of sandwiches and drinks. They are all tasty and you can pack anything up that you don't eat in a goody bag. I can understand that some people may find the music loud, however I felt it added to the atmosphere and I could still hear my friends fine. A fellow guest had asked for it to be turned down. On a pride tour there was a dog on board, however I'm not sure if this is a regular thing.
Just to note, we did find that the bus had more of a stop start feel to the journey, with the breaks being regularly pressed quite sharply. So much so, the staff had to keep readjusting the bin that was falling over and some of the cups on the table etc. This is not something that we would tend to notice, but was quite difficult to drink the hot liquids at one point. It wouldn't put me off going on to another tour as this was the only time I have known this to...
Read moreBus tour gets 1 star Staff get 5 stars Food & drink get 3 stars I booked the “Christmas Lights Afternoon Tea Bus Tour”. The photos on their instagram & on their website are very deceptive. I would even say they falsely advertise what Christmas lights you actually get to see! There are photos of the bus on Old Bond Street, Oxford Street & Regent Street. We only went to Regent Street for maybe 2/3 roads. The most lights that we saw were on the Harrods building which aren’t Christmas lights as they are on all year long. In addition to the deceptive photos they have up let’s talk about the tour itself. It says it takes you to see Londons Iconic landmarks, Buckingham Palace being one of them. The bus only drives along the side of Buckingham Palace. So you’ll only see the car park of Buckingham Palace! Let’s talk food the sandwiches were ok - nothing special. The pastries were nice but nothing that would make me want to go to their bakery & purchase more. Drinks are served in a lovely seasonal cup which you can take with you as a gift from the bakery which is a nice touch but the drinks weren’t nice. We had cappuccino & a nestle powdered cappuccino would have been nicer than what I was served. Same goes for the hot chocolate. Staff get all the praise. They were attentive, they were cheery, made sure we were comfortable & had everything we needed/wanted. Great staff. You would hope that other guests on this tour would be courteous enough not to play their own music or scream loudly on a face time call, unfortunately that was not the case with the other guests on the bus. The people sat directly behind us played their own music loudly so it drowned out the buses Christmas music & the announcements of the “iconic” landmarks. The people sat opposite them had a competition to see if they could be louder on their FaceTime chat. Not sure who won but they were equally annoying & disrespectful to other paying passengers. I paid for a VIP table thinking it was the best table on the bus but truth is it was the windows fogged up, their are no windshield wipers to wipe the rain off so you got to see London through a window full of rain. I wouldn’t recommend this tour. I would suggest you take a hop on off bus tour & a fancy afternoon tea somewhere. It would likely be less expensive &...
