Disappointed and Uncomfortable Experience
I’m not usually one to leave reviews, and I’ve been a fairly regular customer at this Superdrug branch due to its convenient location near the station. This store offers a good range of male toiletries and also a good selection of brands for Afro-Caribbean hair.
However, I’ve repeatedly found myself feeling uncomfortable while shopping here. On several occasions, I’ve noticed staff members following me around the store, and I can clearly hear them using their overhead radios to report my whereabouts to each other. Today was no different – I overheard them speaking about me over the radio, and one member of staff followed me right to the till point, only walking away once I had paid.
While I understand good customer service practices, the manner in which this is done – in my case, consistently and seemingly only towards me – feels intrusive. What’s most unsettling is that I do not observe this behaviour directed at other customers (who look different from me), and I can’t help but feel that I’m being singled out. As the only Black man in the store, it’s difficult not to view this treatment as racial profiling.

Read moreI recently got my latest Jean Paul gaultier fragrance while its on promotion - when you get 50ml above, you will get a free makeup bag. I literally got mine 5 minutes ago. So I asked them if i would be getting free gift or what ever. Then this so called supervisor started offering me i would only get a gift if i purchase other perfume that she offered while i already just a new one. (i mean who would purchase 2 different scents in one day, i mean if you are trying to push sales, worst attempt). Then i dropped a hint saying i know this industry (for real i do), she started asking what i meant by that. yes you should let your customers know when you ran out of gifts or you may start offering alternatives to keep your customers coming. Nope shes so loyal to pushing her sales, trying to make that happen. then i left.
