Letโs start by mentioning that this cafe is advertised as โthe highest rated cafe in the areaโ. We walked past Drury on our way to another cafe which had been recommended by our concierge and so thought weโd try it the next day. Having looked at the reviews and a 4.7 google rating our expectations were set for an amazing breakfast.
Coffee: The coffee was good by London standards, being from Melbourne, itโs hard to compare with what we get at home at the best cafes, however the milk was silky smooth, not too hot and the coffee shot while not strong was a good shot that wasnโt under or over poured. I had 3 coffees and each one was consistent which is a great result.
Food: I ordered the smashed avocado with lemon & mint on sourdough toast with sides of feta and 2 poached eggs. While the presentation was excellent, the preparation of the food was where it was let down. The sourdough wasnโt toasted - it wasnโt warm and there was absolutely no colour, it was soggy from the avocado and had the consistency of stale bread. The eggs I assume had been pre-cooked and reheated which in my case meant the eggs arrived cold on the inside, although they were appropriate soft and runny. Overall this level of food reminded me of an average hotel Buffett breakfast - certainly not the 4.7 star I was expecting.
Service: We were quickly seated (it wasnโt too busy) as it was an early weekday morning, we ordered quickly and what we ordered arrived. I would however have expected to be asked how my meal was when they cleared the plates, and then I would have given them the feedback directly rather than needing to leave a detailed review.
Overall: While it might be the highest rated cafe in the area, it certainly isnโt the best we experienced in the week we visited, in fact it would be at the bottom of our list. My suggestion for anyone reading this review would be to visit with the expectation of a high 3 star to low 4 star rating and you wonโt be disappointed. Also, there are a lot of 4.5 star cafes in the area that live up to their...
ย ย ย Read moreIt was lunchtime, it looks like a good idea to go for a walk towards Covent Garden and eat in the area. When I opened Google map on my cell, to see the route, I noticed a cafe written on the map, which is recomandef for me. I checked and saw that the place has a high rating. The trip to the restaurant was pleasant, despite the drizzle. There was a line of about 8 people standing at the entrance to Drury restaurant, we all waited patiently for a place to become available inside. The restaurant has a website where you can see the menu. When I was seated at a table that became vacant, and the waitress came to me with the menu. My choice was a sandwich and salad from the restaurant's selection of sandwiches and salads. It turned out that at 13.05, only 3 of the offered sandwiches remained, and only one salad. I got mozzarella and tomato Focaccia with basil and chives. Fusilli pasta salad with pieces of fresh tomatoes and dried tomatoes. Cucumbers, and crumbled feta cheese. A jug of water was served to me as well as to all the tables. The selection on the menu is large and there are many vegan options. For the past two weeks, I've been traveling with my vegan daughter and her family, which is probably why Google directed me to this restaurant. At another table, they ordered a waffle with berries and whipped cream, which looked excellent. The restaurant was full of diners all the time, and yet the service was efficient, friendly and with a smile. While I was waiting outside I saw a lot of couriers coming to collect food from the restaurant. It was a delicious meal, I enjoyed it very much and the rating on Google...
ย ย ย Read moreJust a quick note that I wanted to share ๐ ! This is honestly a great place for lunch or breakfast!
As a Frenchie, I was delighted to find this place right next to my classes. The food is delicious, whether you're in the mood for something sweet or savoury ๐คฉ ! And the prices are very reasonable. Great value for money. Fresh, high-quality ingredients and generous portions.
My favourites were the salads with chicken and/or salmon, which always came with a detox water! It was my lunch spot for three weeks!
What's more, it has a real identity inside with little napkins covering the walls and corners where people leave little notes or sketches.
There's something intimate about it! I like this idea of โmaking do with what you haveโ and not worrying about it. But that's only on the surface. In fact, I really appreciated the high level of professionalism I found in this place from the whole team ! Please don't be angry with me ๐ซ , but I must say that I also prefer Alejandro and Sahin the " floor "manager hihi ๐
They have the right address and the right attention to detail (like their Cheescake ๐. They are both attentive and discreet. This makes for a pleasant customer experience.
You can understand the โwhys and whereforesโ of DRURY by looking up at the solo seats in the window, so I'll let you discover it for yourself ! (you won't be disappointed). Their adventure deserves to continue, I wish them all the best for the...
