Yesterday, I dined at the winner of the 2022 UK Restaurant Awards for the Best Restaurant of the Year – Kutir, a high-end Indian restaurant located in Chelsea, London.
🪷 From the outside, the place doesn't look like a typical restaurant; it's tucked away in a quiet corner of the Chelsea terrace houses. After ringing the doorbell, a waiter in a suit vest opens the door for you, revealing a world inside that is both exquisite and luxurious, filled with exotic charm.
🦚 The brightly coloured wallpaper depicts natural landscapes and flora and fauna characteristic of India. Embroidered flowers are vivid and lifelike, while the peacock feathers are adorned with sparkling crystals, creating a beautifully harmonized overall colour scheme.
🍴 We opted for the lunch set menu, priced at £35 for 3 courses, which is quite a good deal in central London.
Starter
🍤 Prawns Masala
Juicy and tender large prawns, coated in a thin layer of batter, emit an enticing aroma. Served with lime, raw onions, and other herbs, it's a refreshing and appetising start.
🐐 Keema Pav
Spicy and delicious minced goat meat, slow-cooked, paired with soft and tasty buttered pav (bread). Despite the heat, it's irresistible.
The main course includes 2 types of naan bread, a serving of white rice, and a portion of spiced daal soup.
🐟 Meen Moilee
This one is a real winner! The coconut curry is sweet and not very spicy, and the sea bass is crispy on the outside and tender and fresh inside. It's so delicious that we ordered an extra serving of naan bread to dip in the coconut curry – pure bliss!
🍛 Chicken Tikka Masala
The chicken is tender, but for me, it's a bit too spicy. The curry is thick, flavorful, and explosively spicy.
Dessert
🍮 Bhapa Doi
This dessert is intriguing, tasting like a rosewater-infused version of Italian panna cotta. The combination of condensed milk and steamed yoghurt is rich, complemented by honeycomb and fruits, with red currants adding a visually stunning touch.
🥭 Cassata Mango
The texture of this dessert is unique, a blend of ice cream and cake. Both the milk and fruit flavours are intense, with rosewater for the pink part and mango for the orange part – the use of fresh fruit is evident in the mango section.
🍰 After the meal, we were treated to a mini dessert, and at the coat check, there was an Indian version of mouth freshener – a mixture of fennel seeds, mint, and sugar balls. Typically consumed after meals, it leaves a fragrant taste in the mouth, though some may find the flavour...

Read moreOne of the best Indian gourmet experiences I've had. First of all, the place itself is lovely, the fact that the restaurant is in a little house makes it very cozy yet very elegant. Decor is very nice. The service was amazing. We were lucky to be waited on by Lucas who was really perfect - very professional, friendly and always eager to make our evening enjoyable. We started of with two of their well reviewed cocktails and were not desappointed!! Absolutely fantastic! I had the one with violet and gin (can't remember the name!) and my husband tried the one with active charcoal! Really tasty! We then went for the full signature menu and wine pairing (it was our wedding anniversary after all!). The food was exquisite. Wines were really great too. The only thing I regret is that the service was a little too fast at the beginning (we hadn't even finished our cocktails that they had brought us the first dish along with the first wine.. a little frustrating!!). It was like that for the first 2 dishes, we even had to rush our drinks, until we asked our waiter to slow it down which he told the kitchen to do and all went well afterwards. Maybe one thing that I would change in the signature Menu (and it is very unlikely for me to say that!!) is the quantity of food or amount of dishes : by the time our main courses arrived we were both almost full. And the food tasted soooo delicious, it was a pity not being fully able to appreciate the last dish and the desserts. In my opinion, the starter made out of a naan with egg and truffle was a bit too copious and could have been half as big or just a “bouchée” as to also let us skip one extra glass of wine. This is obviously just my opinion but we are usually big eaters and we were surprised not being able to finish our menu and our dessert wines.
All in all Kutir is a pure gem. Fantastic flavors, great service and lovely atmosphere! We can’t wait to go back and taste the menu a la Carte this time ;-) Thank you again for a wonderful anniversary dinner...
