Margaux has the feel of a bar or saloon, with dim warm light. The menus use a slightly hard-to-read font, and we saw multiple people using phone flashlights to read them.
We had the black truffle gnocchi, black ink tortelloni, foie gras with figs, and cheesecake. The foie gras was served with normal white bread, which was rather disappointing - I'd hoped for sourdough or baguette chips. The tortelloni was okay, but I will happily say that the giant cheese-filled gnocchi was the best I'd ever had. The cheesecake was whipped very well, so it was light and fluffy, and very tasty.
For us, the service was good. I managed to get a tea with ice even though it wasn't on the menu, and the food came out quickly. We had a water jug, so never had to wait for water. We did find the table a tad small for two, so perhaps keep that in mind.
One thing that I feel would be remiss not to point out, though - we noticed that a woman with a cane was initially offered a downstairs table (mind that there is no elevator, and the stairs are rather steep), and only after some argument was the woman offered a ground floor seat. This did seem a bit odd to us, as there were empty tables on the ground floor when the woman showed up.
The restaurant is also not wheelchair accessible - the restrooms are downstairs and, as noted, can only be accessed via stairs.
In all, I think it was okay for us pair of able-bodied folk, but for anyone with less mobility,...
Read moreI happily stumbled across this wonderful place last Wednesday 13/7/22 with my date and from the moment we walked in we were treated with utter warmth, welcome, and it felt like we’d been there a million times before, given the hot weather, it was much appreciated to sit in the back area to cool down over a few drinks, the hostess, and the wait staff were so warm, friendly, and sincere and clearly value their work and the people they meet, and I could’ve spent the whole evening there, but absolutely intend to go back with a gal pal for a night out! The Sancerre was utterly delicious, and the cocktails were divine! I really appreciated the ambience of the tea lights and the frequent top ups of water, as you can imagine in this heat, much needed! Truly it was such a lovely experience and evening, the facilities were easy to find, clean, and well designed, even down to the hand soap and single use hand towels, great quality for both and it was great to know that hygiene practices are top notch and everyone’s health and well being was still being thought of. Truly such a beautiful experience and I can’t wait to go back! I had such a great time I didn’t take any pics but will be sure to next time, and the many times after that, I’m not local at all but I’m excited to come back when seeing my south London based friends and when I’m in the area in general, thank you for being so...
Read moreI attended this restaurant yesterday evening with my partner to celebrate our anniversary after reading some of positive reviews, and I must say the restaurant absolutely lived up to the positive words that have been left on here.
The food was superb, I had the salmon tartare to start and the beef filet for my main meal- both were absolutely sublime. My partner had the burratina to start and one of the members of staff kindly let him swap out the beetroot for tomatoes with no hesitation when he asked if the dish already came with tomatoes and was told it didn't (so accommodating!). He too, had the beef filet for his main meal, they were both cooked perfectly and tasted exquisite!!
The drinks were fantastic, I had an excellent cocktail to start and then we went through two bottles of pinot grigio throughout our meal which we thoroughly enjoyed.
The staff were so friendly and accommodating through our whole stay at the restaurant which ended up being 4 hours! (we arrived at 8pm and were one of the last tables to leave at 12pm). I would love nothing more then to come back to this fantastic restaurant, take my advice and book asap! You will not be disappointed.
I am not one for writing reviews but this restaurant is fantastic so I had to share...
