I visited Nam Long Le Shaker last Saturday with a group of friends for a quick drink after our dinner at another place in the area.
When I later checked my statement, I noticed I’d been charged £44 for four 330ml bottles of Asahi — that’s £11 each! I’ve never paid anywhere near that for a small bottle, let alone a pint including in that area!
The price was not shown anywhere on a menu, and in the busy, loud environment I was simply directed straight to the card machine to pay. This makes it impossible to make an informed choice and, frankly, feels misleading — almost like a scam.
When I queried it by email (to the address they themselves had used to respond to other reviews) whether the bartender made a mistake, I received no reply to my email. After following up, the only response I got was a one-line email: “no mistake.” No greeting, no use of my name, no acknowledgment of my concern — just those two words; No mistake.
The pricing is unreasonable enough, but the lack of transparency and the dismissive, discourteous handling of my query sealed it for me. I won’t be returning and cannot...
Read moreJust had a 21st birthday last minute (organised 2 days before) in the opium lounge. It's the perfect ambience for such an evening. Plush sofa seating, atmospheric lighting and an enjoyable playlist (one of our guests asked for the playlist afterwards). Its a small venue and this enabled us to have the whole place to ourselves, which with it's own bar is very cool. We went for the most basic set menu which was really delicious and plentiful. Everyone had their fill. Catered pretty seamlessly (though notified in advance) for 2 coeliacs and 1 GF/DF diner with separate dishes (we had a beef dish and a fish in place of chicken curry), as well as feeding a pescatarian with no notice (pretty straight forward I think for a restaurant :)). We had a lot of cocktails and Prosecco. It's fun that the venue changes into a club at 10.30, which our guests and birthday girl stayed on to enjoy. Would highly recommend as a birthday venue even for younger diners with mocktails. ...
Read moreCame here especially to try the momo residency- it was completely empty on a Friday evening and lacked atmosphere, it took ages to get served. We ordered 3 small plates and 2 momo dishes. The momos were disappointing- the duck ones: the wrapping was hard and dry like it had been left out, and the prawn ones the kefir lime sauce was amazing but dumpling filling itself was so mushy couldn’t tell what it was. Would not recommend for the momos!! Prawn toast was nice, and the chicken lettuce cups were decent. I was so excited for the ceviche but it really lacked acidity and punch - very flat. No one checked to see how our meal was going… However the saving grace was the ube panna cotta and Alphonso mango puree- that alone was 10/10 and if I’d just eaten that, would have been happy!! I’d return only for...
