I went there this week on Tuesday around 6 PM, and the girl taking my order was completely out of line. From the start, she had a weird off-putting attitude while taking the order. When she was packing my order in a bag, I told her I wanted to eat inside. She said something I couldn't understand because her indian accent was extremely thick. I asked her to repeat it, and still, I couldn’t make out what she was saying.
Now, let me be clear: An accent was not a problem, the problem was that this server was genuinely unintelligible. After contemplating, I asked her one more time to repeat herself, and instead of calmly clarifying, she snapped and became mental. She started speaking very loudly(her voice was small before), dragging out her words as if I were deaf or something: “Weeeeee dooooonnnnn't seeerrrvvveee insiddeeeee…”so on. Even this she said in a confusing way somehow. I was genuinely confused, wondering if she was actually crazy because it was completely uncalled for.
I was being polite by asking her to repeat herself, but her reaction was completely unprofessional and truthfully, pathetic and laughable. If she can't handle the job, she shouldn't be doing it—especially if she can't communicate the most basic things effectively with customers. Her defensive and aggressive attitude made an already difficult situation even worse.
I’ve been there few times before, and all the other staff on previous visits were excellent. This was, without a doubt, the craziest server experience I've ever had. And for the record, no one was waiting behind me, the place was not busy, and the whole thing took just a few minutes. It did leave a lasting...
Read moreWord of caution , if like me when paying a premium price for average cakes and pastries you would expect when asked " if you're eating in " to be provided with a certain amount of luxury , the way the sustenance arrived at the poor excuse of a table and chairs was alas not, at this branch on Saturday afternoon extremely quiet , oh no ! their idea of a civilised afternoon tea and cake is to despatch it on paper plates and paper cups and plastic cutlery, it's not Greg's I quipped.to the girl who served me with a grimace , I regularly partake of a bit of posh tea at the strand branch which btw is professionally run crockery supplied ,check list , cups and saucers, tea pots steel cutlery..perfection.what gets me is the afore mentioned crockery and associated paraphernalia was but a mere step away on top of the coffee machine she was using, when I complained I was told we are not using them today , perhaps they were awaiting a celebrity gathering ? Who knows ? It's obviously a secret as no excuse was forthcoming. On the whole I'd use Paul's establishment , a much more of an event than this...
Read moreI find Ole & Steen is a bit overrated and overpriced. I've been there a bunch of times and their bread is not bad nice and warm on the inside and crunchy on the outside but like so many places in London, there's not enough flavour or seasoning. I had the Truffle toastie and a truffle mini sandwich thing, along with the coconut and marshmallow dessert. The toastie bread was nice and the truffle flavour sort of came through but it was a mild flavour overall. The mini sandwich was cold but packed a bit more flavour, but at £10 for both of them it was a bit pricey for the lacklustre flavour. The coconut marshmallow dessert was interesting...it was sweet enough, not too strong not too weak, and the marshmallow inside look like paint but wasn't too bad. I wouldn't really have it again but it's worth trying once. Overall it was average I'd say. But the atmosphere of the space was quite nice and posh, perfect if you're a hipster who does yoga and has those plants hanging in your...
