I have no idea what all the good reviews are about. It is exactly these reviews that drew us in. What’s a disappointment. Initially got there, it was a Friday night, 8pm, the place was one fifth full at best. It’s not a cozy place as keeps being mentioned here, it’s quite spacious. The waiters were the best thing about the experience, and they were not outstanding.
There is no discussion of the meat or specials as there are in other great steak restaurants, think goodmans, hawksmoor, gaucho, etc. there is no build up, no here are the different cuts of steak on a board…it’s straight to what do you want to order. No recommendations for anything. And at £50+ just for the piece of meat, which is more than most of the other good restaurants, there really should be something extra. Otherwise they are relying solely on the quality of their food and steak….
And to be fair, the starter we had, grilled sausage , was decent. But you just can’t get that wrong imo.
On to the main, we all went for the ribeye 400g, some had it medium and some medium rare. Ribeye is a fatty cut and medium is typically the best about as let’s the fat melt in, but they absolutely insisted that medium rare was recommended. It didn’t seem to matter much, as the same complaint came from 3 of 4 of us- that the steak wasn’t seasoned well, was too tough on the outside and too raw on the inside, and was overall grisly. I have never seen this before, but 3 of the 4 people on the table left about 25-40% of the steak on the plate. And we were hungry going in.
The sides were ok.. chips cooked well, broccholi decent and tomato onion salad tasty. Sweet potato was boring not seasoned well.,” wine was a Malbec which we asked for again so that must have been tasty.
The toilets were very outdated. And these days it’s the little Touches. It’s not cure anymore or “rustic” to have a badly finished paint job. The soap dispenser squirted weirdly, the tap was jumpy, there was even a can or air freshener on the side which was rusty with the top broken and metal pusher exposed. Just all added to the mediocre experience.
And another review mentioned the music. What music?? The only time we heard music was some elevator tunes in the toilet, nothing on the main floor.
I will finish with a description of the table we were sitting at however. Lovely piece of work. Tree trunk for the base and glass top, sits about 6-8, so we had loads of room. Was great. Was the only one in the restaurant however the rest of the tables were normal and drab.
In conclusion, if you happen to be around the corner and fancy a glass of wine and starters then should be ok. If you are forward planning to go to a nice steak restaurant and putting it against the other greats in london, just don’t bother entertaining it. Don’t overthink, just book one of the main,...
Read moreChristmas deserves a cracking night out, great company, scummy food, luscious drinks and laughs. This night started at the nearby Enigma Quests Escape room followed up by this Argentinean steakhouse. Initially we were surprised by the intimacy of the restaurant, but this made it more personal so not a problem. Starters of Empanadas (best starter) and also Grilled Octopus, which was unfortunately more chewy than I prefer, so maybe slightly over cooked, still great flavour though. Main courses of 350g Rump. 250g fillet and 400g churrasco Marinated fillet - which were all cooked to perfection and amazingly delicious, yum!! Sauces of Red chimichurri, green chimichurri and peppercorn, great again. Sides of sauteed mushrooms (lovely), creamed spinach (oh yes, yummy). cowboy beans and 'hand-cut' chips, it is these chips that the 4 of us took note of. For hand cut chips, they looked too thin, more akin to fries and when served, contained small pieces of chips, very similar to when you empty a bought, bag of ready made chips. They were most certainly not thick cut, triple cooked chips you get in other up market steak houses. Puddings of Affogato - very nice, Doulce de leche cheesecake - unfortunately this wasn't liked, it seemed bland, sticky toffee with vanilla ice-cream - had no flavour, not enough sauce, and chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream - great texture & very nice. The meal was accompanied by 2 bottles water, Gin & lemonade and 2 bottles Recoleta Malbec. Total of £469 A point of note, is that this being a Saturday night within the 'City' this restaurant was very quiet and so lacking some atmosphere, I'm sure that this must be a Saturday thing and during the week its...
Read morerestaurant was booked by my girlfriend for my 25 birthday. turned up 30 mins late for the reservation booked. We phoned ahead and they were very understanding. Reached the restaurant and our coats were collected by the lady at the door.
Upon entering I was stunned that this basement restaurant could be so warm and welcoming. the lighting, music (which some claimed to be too loud, it wasnt but instead atmospheric) and staff added to the feel good vibe and we very quickly settled into our menu choices.
The staff continued to probe for ways to assist us but were never interfering or over bearable. we ordered a lovely Rump steak and a few drinks. The steak came and was delicious. We took our time eating the steak (measured in grams, we grabbed the 300g) with portions of hand made chips as our side dish and were incredibly satisfied upon completion. we were so full that my partner who usually orders dessert couldnt order any more.
we continued to talk with our next move being to request for the bill. Little did I know that the birthday badge (yes a birthday badge) was on show and the warm staff had seen. they flew in with a slice of cake and a happy birthday message which looked well presented and once again warm. I thanked them repeatedly and even other attendees broke out into a happy birthday song which added to the night.
We requested the bill and while not cheap we didnt feel like we had been ripped off and in fact, it felt like money well spent.
Would definitely go...
