The Leadenhall Building, commonly known as "The Cheesegrater," is an iconic addition to London's skyline. Completed in 2014 and designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, this 48-story skyscraper stands at 224.5 meters tall, making it one of the tallest buildings in the city.
The building's distinctive tapering design not only gives it its nickname but also serves a practical purpose by preserving sightlines to St Paul's Cathedral from Fleet Street. This innovative approach reflects a blend of modern architecture and historic preservation. The exterior showcases the steel bracings, emphasizing its vertical lines and creating a striking visual impact.
Inside, the Leadenhall Building offers high-quality office spaces with flexible, rectangular floor plates that decrease in size toward the top. The lower levels feature a spacious, seven-story atrium filled with natural light, hosting shops, cafes, and public spaces that enhance its communal atmosphere.
Overall, the Leadenhall Building is celebrated not just for its architectural ingenuity but also for the vibrant public spaces it provides at its base, making it a significant and dynamic part of the City of London's...
Read moreThe Leadenhall Building has conquered London as one of the tallest buildings in the city at 225 m. It is an individual architecture that was chosen here, viewed from the side you notice the narrowing that occurs upwards, which gives it a carved impression. It shows that the imagination in the design of high-rise buildings is far from exhausted. The "Handelsblatt" ironically referred to it as a "cheese grater", whereby the nickname was adapted from the London public. It is already customary there to give imposing modern buildings a nickname. It is an elegant building, which also has a stylish finish and standard...
Read moreI've seen some fantastic views of London in my time and I can honestly say, the view from level 42 at the Cheesegrater is one of the most impressive I've ever seen.
Located right in the middle of the City, I saw incredible sweeping views of London from East and West. On the East side, you'll see the Gherkin, Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf in the distance. On the West, BT Tower, St. Pauls' Cathedral, the London Eye and beyond
At 225m tall, it dwarfs its nearby skyscraper neighbours such as the Gherkin and Walkie-Talkie, which is amazing really given that those two aren't exactly shorties.
Level 42 is at the Cheesegrater is an event space and can be hired out for such occasions. The big Cheesegrater is not open to visit normally. But it is open to visits on special days like Open House London which takes place every September. The Cheesegrater is one building you have to visit.
If impressive views are your thing, the Leadenhall Building won't disappoint...
