A Soulful South Indian Culinary Experience at Sagar Hotel, Covent Garden Recently, we had the pleasure of dining at Sagar Hotel in Covent Garden, where we were warmly welcomed by Mr. Gopal , the Head of the Branch. From the moment we stepped in, the ambiance exuded a comforting charm, setting the stage for a delightful culinary journey. We were fortunate to indulge in a selection of South Indian delicacies tailored perfectly to our taste buds. Each dish was a symphony of flavors, expertly crafted to provide a stomach-friendly experience. The hospitality extended by Mr. Gopi added an extra layer of warmth to our dining experience, making us feel truly valued as guests. Amidst the array of delectable offerings, the star of the show was undoubtedly the Rasam Vada. As the weather in London lingered with a chill, this piping hot dish proved to be the perfect antidote, lifting our moods with its comforting warmth and tantalizing spices. I cannot recommend Sagar Hotel enough to fellow food enthusiasts. Whether you're craving authentic South Indian cuisine or simply seeking a memorable dining experience, Sagar Hotel delivers on all fronts. I, for one, am eagerly anticipating my next visit to relive the culinary bliss that awaits at this gem in Covent Garden.

Visited for dinner on a Friday evening. Despite the time being 6pm it was quite busy (and noisy), possibly people eating before heading to the shows. As it was pure veg, everything on the menu was available for us. This place has a good selection of South/North Indian dishes and they weren’t that spicy. Our group had the South Indian Thali, Rajdhani Thali (North Indian) and another had a paneer dosa. The paneer dosa was delicious, North Indian Thali came with 2 rotis (thinly rolled and well made but large size), a small serving of pulav rice, 3-4 curries (tiny portions), papad and sweet dish (halwa) and a raita. The South Indian thali came with 2 (large) puris instead of rotis, plain rice, sambar and couple of South Indian curries. Both thalis were delicious and quantity was ample (too much for us as we aren’t big eaters). Given the tiny quantities of curries we asked for an extra helping of a couple we liked but they seemed quite grumpy at being asked for that but reluctantly obliged. We skipped desserts and headed out for the gelateria nearby. This is a great place for people who want authentic Indian vegetarian food at reasonable prices (given the location).

I went here with a friend this week (11/12/2021). We expected great things given the menu looked so delicious for vegans. Unfortunately, we were sadly mistaken. It was bad when the poppadoms for our starter didn't come with the usual chopped onions or chutney. Instead, an odd lentil daal mix with a cucumber number that was underwhelming. It became much worse when for mains, I had the lentil and masala pancake, which did not taste of masala at all. In fact, it was inedible due to the "masala" element consisting of two different types of diced chilli. It was too hot to eat, and absolutely flavourless. My boyfriend had the masala dosa. The same type of condiments were given to what we had earlier received with the poppadoms, alongside side a cold potato filling. I would like to say the staff were attentive and made the whole experience easier, alas it was the opposite. I'm not someone who usually leaves a review but we were greatly disappointed with both the service and the food. It's such a shame. I hope this review can go some way into inspiring the restaurant to improve upon its customer service and menu, because it really let itself down.

I've visited this restaurant a couple of time and enjoyed everything I've eaten. The menu has labels to distinguish vegetarian and vegan dishes. The food tastes fresh and the dosas are delightfully crispy and but I wasn't wow'd by the jaggery dessert dosa (I thought there would be an even spread of sugar but there were hard lumps scattered in a few parts of the dosa instead). The vegan thali was good, which I last time I visited. On my most recent visit I ordered 2 savoury dosas, 1 paratha, 2large beers and 1 dessert. When the bill came I asked if it included service and was told no. I asked the waiter to add 10% and he suggested rounding the bill to £60. I agreed because I had a guest but I thought that was a poor way of getting a bigger tip. £60 for lunch for 2 seemed like a lot, considering we didn't order that much. I have since realised that service was included and my bill without service would have been about £45. So I've paid ~33% for service. I won't be rerurning.

Disappointed and fell sick after eating here. We visited Sagar on a Sunday late afternoon and like some of the other recent reviews posted we found the food absolutely tasteless. The coconut chutney given with Bhajia and dosas had no salt, sambhar was just plain spiced water and the potato filling masala dosa was definitely a few days old which made us fall sick. Sev puri chaat served only had pieces of onion, chutney and coated with strange looking sev (presumably leftover from some other dish). I usually don’t post reviews but had to make this exception given how bad the experience with the food was. This was my second visit to this restaurant and I will not be visiting this franchise again. The cost of the dishes does not justify the quality and/or taste of the food served at this restaurant.

We walked past this place while looking for a place to eat in Covent Garden that wasn’t too packed. I love South Indian cuisine so gave it a try. It was just after the theatre rush so we didn’t need a booking. The food was excellent! We had the Manchurian Gobi (yes it’s an Indian take on Chinese!) and the Chilli Paneer to start. We practically inhaled them! I was curious about the Lentil Pizza so have it a try while my partner went for the traditional dosa. Again both were good although not quite chilli enough for my Punjabi tongue. We also had the Gajar Ka Halwa and the Jaggery Dosa for dessert and both were excellent. I liked it so much I suggested it to a group of friends for later that week and I had the Sagar special Dosa which I highly recommend.
