My second visit in 8 years so I'm hardly a regular. However, Simpsons is quite simply in a class of one.
The quality of the food is superb, the portion size is generous, the prices very reasonable for central London, but best of all is the service.
The greeter can only be described as a typically ebullient Englishman. Very polite, very cheery and couldn't do enough to help us - more later. My wife uses crutches and he offered to take us through his neighbour so that she could use the lift.
The waiting staff are equally helpful - my wife asked for a coffee, so the waiter put a fresh pot on. My wife just wanted some "sides" to eat, again no problem.
My grandson was amazed by the decor and the size of his roast beef slices. My Edwardian chop must have registered on the Richter Scale when it was put on my plate.
By the time we'd finished, 2 mains - with an optional Cumberland sausage on my plate, 4 sides, 2 coffees, 2 apple juices and 2 pints of ale, the bill, including service, was £67. The waiter even threw in a free pint of ale as it was our wedding anniversary.
Afterwards, I asked to see the greeter, Ben to thank him for another great experience. He continued the excellent service. He asked where we were going to next, and showed us personally, a shorter route. He banged on the door of the George and Vulture so that we could see inside the pub mention by Charles Dickens 20-some times in"The Pickwick Papers".
If you want truly traditional food in the heart of the capital, I can not recommend...
Read moreI went there for lunch with a group of colleagues. Food was very over price. A main course cost about £12 to 16 pounds and you have to £4 for some potato. My roast of the day cost nearly £16. It says that it should comes with roast potato and veg of the day. I received two pieces tiny potato. The veg of the day was frozen pea...
Apart from the food, the service was terrible. The food was more than one hour late. We went there at 1pm and did not have food near 2:30pm. When the food arrived, we were hungry without knife and fork. I asked politely for the knife and got told off by the waitress!
They were nice enough to offer some deserts for compensation but they did not ask what we want. Just served some random stuffs and not for everyone either.
I do not think I will go back there again. I would not recommend friends to go...
Read moreToday I was disappointed. We were a group of 6 people that get together for a special event and had made a reservation for a table at 1.30. Despite a number of reassurances that the group occupying the table were just leaving, we did not sit down until after 2.15. The food was as usual good, but certain items had at this time run out.. would this have been the case if we had sat down at the time booked..To be fair to the management we did receive one bottle of wine on the house. The moral of the story is that it appears that Simpson's will accept your booking knowing that you will kept waiting, so do not be surprised. Amazingly I will no doubt be back very soon, but would ask that Simpsons stops relying on regular customers understanding for...
