I recently booked a table for 7 for a family meal as I’ve been before and enjoyed the food despite the higher than normal price range in comparison to local restaurants.
We ordered drinks first, while 2 of us myself included ordered water. Everybody body else had there drinks brought out first except the two of us that ordered water. We even had our starters brought out first and I had to ask the waitress twice about where our drinks were before she replied with an attitude about how busy she was and tried to laugh it off. These times it was literally just the 7 of us and two other people in the restaurant. I was almost ready to walk out but because I was with family I restrained myself from confronting her about it. After our starters we tried to decide on our mains which was made difficult due to the fact there was no set meals, just mains and you had to purchase the rice or noodles separately. There were two menus, one of which just had prices for mains and sides but no set meals which made it tricky to navigate as you’d have to purchase a main and a side separately rather than getting them together which made deciding what to eat harder. Also the waitress seemed incapable of offering much guidance and explanation as when we asked the waitress about portion sizes she was very vague and just answered that steamed rice (the cheapest side at £3) came in a ridiculously small bowl, and that egg fried rice and the other mains apparently came in a larger bowl but was only enough for one person. This seemed a bit extortionate considering some of the sides were close in price to the main dishes! When a member of my family asked about soup waitress said it came in a tiny bowl like the steamed rice, and apparently all their soups come like this. We assumed that they may be starters judging by the price so we looked at another menu that had soups listed with a higher price tagged so assumed they may have been mains and when we asked the waitress to clarify this she seemed as if she was confused by the question or just incapable of communicating and we just gave up asking. At this point we all got fed up and asked for the bill which despite ordering just drinks, 2 of which was just tap water, 2 hor dourves, 2 starters and 1/2 crispy duck came to 100 including service charge. As I was my birthday I didn’t pay otherwise I would have told them to remove the service charge due to the poor service given by the waitress!!! Overall the food was decent albeit overpriced for what it was, especially when compared to some of the other local Chinese restaurants, but the service was the biggest disappointment especially with the waitress’ poor communication skills as the minimum you would expect is to have proper guidance when navigating a menu and when asking...
Read moreGood effort and initiative, Greenich can use another place serving up authentic chinese food. Sadly the expected flavours just aren't quite there.
This is better than the regular anglo-chinese hole in the wall, but compared to other authentic szechuan and hunanese places nearby, it's lacking the depth of flavours that I have been accustomed to. The ma po tofu, as one of my favorite dishes, was heavy on the stock and light on the chili bean paste and chili oil, not much spice to it, and overall a disappointment after the first few bites.
Even if a bit underwhelming it would do for a lazy takeout if it weren't for the sometimes embarrassingly small portions. I ordered the dry fried hotpot, which is a favourite in many other similar restaurants, but this lacked the intensity, both in flavour and texture that comes out with proper dry frying, and instead had overcooked sloppy vegetables swimming around in a soya broth. There were a couple of slices of dried chilies and a few szechuan pepper corns, but nowhere near what is required to infuse the other ingredients with the way it should. Despite having a selection of 5 ingredients at £16 the dish I received was only one plastic container with a slice or two of each ingredient rather than a handful as is common in other places where the same price and selection usually gives you 2-3 take...
Read moreHands down best Chinese food in Greenwich at this price. Friendly and swift service. Modern and minimal decor really helps to settle down and tuck into perfectly prepared dishes and this resteraunt is outside of the polluted center of Greenwich village but still only a short walk from the park, museums and Cutty Sark. Ask for the Tofu and Seafood Soup; Salt and Pepper Prawns are nicely spiced and not over greasy, I also ate Lamb in Szechuan style and egg fried rice; everything was delicious.
You can get a quick working lunch that's nutritious and delicious!
The staff were perfectly accommodating to my dietary needs including replacing the pork served in my noodle dish with beef.
Not too busy as it's out of the rat route but well worth taking the scenic route for.
Most of all as a brown dreadlocks religious queer man the staff went out of their way to make me feel at home and welcome.
