I enjoy frequenting comedy clubs and this is the first time I've ever been to a show where I don't think I laughed at all. It was almost surreal how bad it is was. The vibes were terrible and super weird and I felt like the show tried far too hard to be edgy and when people didn't laugh they were accused of being uptight but it was simply that the jokes weren't funny at all - the comedy was no "darker" than your typical comedy show, in fact I found it was tamer than most. The jokes seemed to be targeted at the Facebook boomer audience - those. 50+/with no real sense of humour.
I also felt like the venue setup was super unsafe particularly in the case of an emergency (e.g. fire) as it was super packed and people could hardly move on the lower deck of the barge where the show was hosted. My partner and I wanted to leave early because the "comedy" was so bad but we felt trapped and like we were held hostage because it was so difficult to physically leave the venue.
I also really didn't like that people were bribed at the end with free tickets if they left a good review.
They also messed up and sold tickets to a Wednesday show that simply didn't exist and only informed me of this a few hours before the show.
The positives: The pizza was decent and I feel like the place has lots of potential if they reduced the capacity (or perhaps allowed seating upstairs with tvs?), gave safety briefings (which has been common in a lot of small comedy venues I've been to), and if they changed the acts and content up and didn't try so hard at being edgy
Edit: unsurprisingly they are incapable of taking constructive criticism. (Check out their other...
Read moreSTOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND BOOK!! I booked the Dark Comedy night on the Battersea Barge as a gift experience as we had never been to one, the price seemed very good for a strong lineup, pizzas and complimentary arrival drinks. What I didn’t expect was the level of absolute comedy gold, amazing atmosphere and faultless staff. The service and timings were incredibly tight, organised perfectly. Entry was relaxed, no immediate checking of tickets, but welcomed in and directed to the pizza line. We were then greeted by an unbelievably tall pizza guy with a happy face, who proceeded to load us up with plates of lush fresh pizza! As we were a little on the late side, straight over for drinks and we had 10mins to devour our plates while sitting up top and soaking in the fantastic views. Next, down to the theatre. We preferred to sit at the back, which didn’t feel like the back as the room is intimate with great sound quality. A real highlight was how attentive the staff are. We were so looking forward to seeing Dimitri Bakanov and were gutted that his flow (and our enjoyment) was mercilessly interrupted by two disrespectful drunk women. Dimitri handled the situation like a true champion, addressing the two elephants in the room, and after multiple warnings they were removed to the cheers of the crowd. Even after this unfortunate situation, the acts brushed off this negativity and continued to provide a night of fabulous comedy. Our fave act was the incredibly tall guy, reminded me of Lee Evans on growth hormone. We cannot wait to book again, and recommend it to anyone (with a twisted sense of humour). Keep up...
Read moreFrank Foster was good, but that was it. I felt that his material ( or at least some was regurgitated )…the delivery at times was a bit forced. Liked that he infused his former job and a chat widd a Bredrin into the set…but for me, there was something missing though. He shot his shot a lot, but not enough buckets/baskets scored 6.5 out of 10
Tevin was aloof/cool/hyped up and had an air of flair about him plus IDGAF either. There was the joke about the boat which coulda been dry but was done REALLY WELL as well as the Family bit. I was laughing a lot and was impressed 8.5 out of 10
Mark Wallis was looking dapper and was doing the ticket names and seat/comedy area directions before his set. It wasn’t bad and wrung EVERY OUNCE OF LAUGHTER AND FUN from the material the audience selected, but again like Frank it lacked something and that coulda brought about 2-3 extra marks for him. 6.5 out of 10
But LAST and stealing First Place from Tevin, was Rum Comedy Club CEO/Pizza Disher Outer and Payment Taker Extrordinaire, a 6’6 or 6’7 and Man from Manc Land, Michael “Pizza Mack Daddy” Hackett
He was lewd, crude n rude but continued to exude creativity, longevity and copaceticity in his 20 minutes…he #HadMeInStitches
They have nights elsewhere too…but I’ll deffo be going to them especially if there is a repeat of Tevin & Pizza Mack Daddy...
