Had a terrible experience here on Sunday. The waitress/manager on duty was incredibly rude, argumentative, and overall off putting. My partner and I stopped in for a drink and an early dinner. We ordered drinks at the bar, sat down, and looked at the menu. We asked the gentleman running food what the soup of the day was and he let us know. I chose my meal and told my partner exactly what I wanted. He went to the bar and asked the waitress/manager on duty behind the bar if the soup of the day was indeed what the gentleman said. Her reply was âI donât know, I guessâ. He ordered the soup (hoping it was what we were told), my meal, and his own meal (his original choice was out of stock, but he chose something else). The soup came, it was nice, and what we were originally told. Then the meal came and mine was wrong. I asked for smoked salmon to be added to the dish, not halloumi, but it arrived with halloumi. When we let someone know they said they would check the ticket. Then the waitress/manager on duty came over. I handed her my plate and said âsorry I donât like halloumiâ to which she turned and said to my partner âthis is what you orderedâ. He denied ordering it and she continued to insist. He explained that he wouldnât order something I donât like. She still insisted that he ordered that and argued aggressively. This went on for 3-4 minutes approximately. She finally said âwell, I heard you say halloumiâ and my partner said âperhaps you misheard meâ and she rolled her eyes and walked away. By that point we were both uncomfortable and upset about the aggressive and elongated confrontation. I pointed out to my partner that itâs very difficult for him to order something he doesnât even know is an option since I told him what I wanted and he hadnât looked at that part of the menu. We decided at that point that we no longer wanted to eat there as we were too uncomfortable and the experience was completely ruined, so he went up to the bar and since he hadnât eaten his food, he asked that it be sent back and we be reimbursed for the mains. She begrudgingly did so. I am so disappointed by this treatment we received and how we were made to feel. The mistake with the food is not the issue here as it was a mistake, the issue is the aggressive, confrontational, rude manner in which the manager on duty dealt with the mistake. We have been patrons of this pub for the last 4 years but sadly we will never return.
To update: i wrote this initial review almost 2 years ago. Almost immediately after posting, the manager of the restaurant read this review and reached out to us. She apologized and made the excuse that they are understaffed. She then offered to comp us our next meal. Unfortunately, the experience we had was so bad we decided to spend our money elsewhere. While, i appreciate the efforts of the manager, I will not go back to this...
Read moreIf hospitality like this existed in West London l'd be a happy woman and an even busier guide. Upon entering this establishment you can see well laid out seating with varied heights bar/ dining/ leather booths and sofa areas. The spacing allows easy passage for wheelchairs( nb: tables are at correct height for seating transfer)stick walkers and groups can snake through with little difficulty. Signage for food choices is plentiful and l love the invitation to order afternoon tea by the exquisite teapot display. I defy anyone to find the tap selection wanting. There's a broad choice of London, UK and continental beers, lagers and ciders. My favourite summer shandy making Cornish Doom got a yaay from me. My friends enjoyed rose and red wine choices with exotic names followed by a debate about which whisky was a good after lunch palate pleaser.
And.....we haven't even got to the food .... Wonderful selection of starters and mains covering steaks, fish, proper Mac n cheese, vegan burgers, robust salads including the mighty nourish bowl. Lots of attention was paid to our groups allergen list with one of our party getting a bespoke plate of food. That alone earns a fifth star. We were given a handy laminate tab for the table which made it easier to continue to order throughout our three hour stay. Yep they couldn't get rid of us. Even when it got extremely busy as nearby workers gathered to unwind using ALL the tables inside and out. I'd say it had an Autistic friendly/ introvert vibe until then.
Even the loos were pleasant to use with clear signage on a flush that even arthritic hands could manage. Took full advantage of the handy tiled ledge in my toilet to put my phone down.
The only note l have to the manager who was very informative about their customer panel helping them with tweaks to accessibility is.... Dessert choices. Vary them for the summer months. Lighten the carb load with ice cream/ sorbet/ Eton mess/Trifles. As you're in a financial district how about making a jokey Millionaires Knickerbocker glory. I'd travel across London for it.
I applaud the ambiance of this venue, the dedication of efficient non complaining bar staff who are working at full pelt, serving, clearing tables and listening to customers chat and the view of the wharf through the windows is Uber relaxing too. Well worth a visit. Bypass the rest because this is simply the best. đ This is my longest review ever. Thanks for getting to...
Read moreMediocre at best. I reviewed many pubs, many get 4-5 stars (yes, my standards are pretty low) so this is unusually low. The pub is pretty and nicely designed but the quality of the staff is appalling.
The menu says that all burgers come with chips unless otherwise stated. Under the vegetarian burger it says that it's served with a salad but it's not clear if it's instead of the chips. So I didn't want to assume and asked the bartender and she said that it does. She also asked if I wanted bacon on my vegetarian burger which I thought was a bit strange but oh well.
The waiter didn't know where table 33 was and went all over the place with our dishes. We actually had to hand-gesture her so hard that we were worried that planes from the nearby City airport would accidentally land there. No suggestions for sauce have been made by her.
The burger came without chips so I went to the bar and since I didn't want to argue, I explained that I was misled but said I will pay for the chips. This is ÂŁ5 for chips over the ÂŁ15 of the burger.
The second waiter also couldn't locate table 33 and gave out chips to someone else that had to tell him 3 times that this was not something he ordered. Our semaphore didn't seem to get his attention either so I chased him back to the bar and had to take him and show him where table 33 was. The ÂŁ5 chips were disappointingly small - I think this is the smallest portion I've had in a pub. It's freaking potatoes and oil - how much are you saving there?! The waiter also didn't think of bringing any sources so I had to ask him to bring ketchup and then again to bring mayo.
On the petty side of things (which I normally wouldn't mention):
The Doombar (that is the ale I usually get in pubs) felt stale - but maybe that's just me, I didn't check when the barrel was last changed.
The soap bottle in the toilet was not screwed into the rack.
The burger didn't have any ketchup in it - the bottom bun had some sort of salsa and the top one completely dry. No ketchup was offered.
I actually thought of emailing this to the pub privately but I couldn't find a Contact Us link on...
