Safety hazard ignored at Number 35 McKenzie Walk
This morning, while walking my dogs past Number 35 McKenzie Walk, I observed a significant amount of broken glass and shards scattered around the outside seating area. This is a busy spot where the public, including children and pets, regularly pass by. The presence of so much glass was extremely concerning, as it posed a serious risk of injury.
I immediately went inside to report this to the manager, hoping for a swift response to clean up the area and prevent potential harm. Unfortunately, the experience was far from satisfactory. Initially, the manager seemed to ignore my request entirely. After I insisted and offered to show him the exact location of the broken glass, he followed me halfway, only to dismissively walk away before properly assessing the situation. When I asked if he had noticed the glass, his response was indifferent.
I reminded him that, as per their license to operate the premises they are required to maintain a clean and safe environment as part of their duty of care towards the public. His dismissive and insensitive attitude continued, and when I asked for his name, he refused to provide it and stared me in the face in an intimidating way and walked away - saying what you gonna do! He appeared to be the new manager here (in pic).
We've been coming to this venue for years and have always enjoyed it, but this encounter has left a very negative impression. The manager's disregard for public safety and his lack of concern for children and pets—who cannot avoid such dangers themselves—shows a significant lack of responsibility and care. His behavior does not align with the values that this venue should uphold. He needs proper training and should not be in charge of a place that prides itself on being a welcoming spot for everyone, including families with children and pet owners.
This experience was disappointing and has made us reconsider visiting again.
I hope this review is noticed by the management and they review the CCTV recording of the premises as I could not find a number or an email to contact them directly about this issue .
I will also be reporting this to Canary Wharf Management as this intimidating behaviour and unsafe way of operating the premises is not acceptable.
PS: It took four months for management to respond to this review, and the reply is not only inaccurate but also appears to defend the intimidating behavior of the manager. Despite this delay, no effort has been made to provide contact details or invite further discussion, which raises doubts about the sincerity of the response. Instead of addressing the concerns raised, the reply seems more focused on being defensive than genuinely considering and acting upon the...

Me and my friend visited today, Sunday 22nd of May at 1pm as we had a reservation for regular Brunch (not bottomless).
As the weather was really nice and sunny, I chose this place because it had advertised its outside area and had a cute location just along the river near Canary Wharf Station.
Once we arrived we were quite disappointed to find out that they didn't seat reservations outside and if we wanted to sit outside we had to find whatever table was free which was really strange considering their large outdoor terrace being advertised so much and due to the great weather they should certainly be expecting people to want to be seated outside.
It was especially annoying because the sofa tables by the river that could seat 4 people and had umbrellas for shade, were being occupied by people who were just sitting on their laptops. The one next to us had 1 guy with his laptop who was by himself occupying this huge sofa area and it just makes no sense why they can't keep the outdoor area for reservations and not have it as a "first come first serve" basis.
Once we sat down at a table, we were directly by the water in the sun which was great but for the fact that it was Sunday and not very busy the service was quite slow and not very friendly. We were only given 1 food menu and I had to go in to ask for a drinks menu. We also had to request water and for a hot day like today (25°C), they should really be providing it and topping it up frequently to prevent people from getting dehydrated or having a heat stroke.
We ordered non-alcoholic drinks which were really tasty being the "Mrs Smith" (the red one) and the Elderflower & Cucumber lemonade.
For Brunch they had a huge selection as well as an All Day menu which was really great! My friend is vegetarian and doesn't like the fake vegan meat so it was great that they had a huge variety of dishes including lots of vegetarian friendly ones.
I had the Blueberry Ricotta Pancakes and my friend ordered the Halloumi & Crushed Avkcado Burger, both were delicious! They also arrived fairly quickly which was great, so the quality of the food and drinks we were really happy with.
As a summary, the location is cute and the food and drinks are great quality for a fair price but don't expect to be seated outside when you make a booking and if you do, be prepared for the servers to not be very attentive as they seem to just do the bare minimum of...
Read moreWe pre-booked a group of 9 for bottomless brunch (£45pp) and what followed was an absolute shambles from start to finish.
We arrived 30 minutes early for our 4:15pm booking and were seated promptly — fair enough. We ordered our first round of cocktails right as our booking began. At no point were we told there would be a delay, yet after 20 minutes of waiting with no drinks, we had to chase an update and were casually brushed off.
30 minutes in, only 4 out of 9 drinks arrived. The remaining drinks showed up 15 minutes after that — nearly 45 minutes into what was supposed to be a “bottomless” experience. When we raised this with our server and the manager, we were told, “We have 200 people in for bottomless brunch today, it’s going to take time.” Sorry, but if you can’t serve that many guests efficiently, don’t accept that many bookings — especially when you’ve taken a £100 deposit and clearly knew we were coming.
They tried to make up for the wait by bringing us prosecco between rounds, and to be fair, our actual server was doing their best — entering 3 rounds at a time just to speed things up. But even that didn’t help much. It was painfully slow the entire time.
Then came the food. Most of our group ordered the steak and eggs — 10 minutes later, we were told they were out. They were also out of three other dishes on the menu. Again, this was not mentioned until after we’d already tried ordering. A bit of transparency up front would’ve gone a long way. Instead, it felt like we were just constantly being let down, one thing after another.
The male manager we dealt with was rude and dismissive, and we were eventually told they were short-staffed — again, something that should’ve been made clear when we sat down, so we could manage our expectations. Instead, we were left in the dark, constantly asking questions, and repeatedly disappointed.
The food we did eventually get was decent — no complaints there — but the service was nowhere near acceptable for the price and promise of the experience. I honestly would’ve had a better, smoother time at Slug & Lettuce. And that says a lot.
Wouldn’t return, and wouldn’t recommend unless they dramatically improve organisation and...
