You know a place has issues when you sit down, see that the menu will average £90-110 per head if you want to eat well and have some ‘ok’ wine, yet the first thing you see is a glaring Ikea symbol on what is a 40 pence water glass. Anyway… long story short, Jay Rayners review clearly had a huge impact on this place’s early success, but standards have slipped. Dis-interested and at times quite unfriendly staff - not interested in valuable feedback regarding some of the dishes, and quite literally prices that take the biscuit. Last week I ate one of the greatest meals I had in London, at Aulis, Soho. The week before, Core by Clare Smith, the week before Le Dame de Pic. I am blessed with both appreciating and knowing about good food, and what a great experience really should look like. I could write a book on what this place ‘should’ be, considering the price point for this part of London. There were some spectacular flavours; the stuffed Artichoke and the beef dumplings were incredibly tasty. However the Baclava ‘was’ dry, left a cloyingly unpleasant taste on the palate and seemed slightly undercooked… the cream tasted a little stale like it had absorbed flavours from the fridge or was quite old. This feedback was simply met by the reply ‘so you don’t like it’.
The close to £40 lamb platter was nothing more than 5 soft bits of lamb shoulder, the cheapest cut of meat, in an overly watery sauce, under an undercooked pastry base. My friend and I really did find difficulty in finding any redeeming features however credit goes to what this place used to be like a short 9 months ago. The amount of empty seats on Jubilee weekend do all the talking really. So I...

Read moreThis restaurant seemed nice and was busy but we left feeling quite annoyed and ripped off to be honest. For a fairly average Turkish restaurant it’s expensive. This isn’t an issue itself had the portions not been so insulting to the point it was actually amusing. £9 hummus and no bread provided nor did they ask. Are you meant to spoon it off the plate? £20 beef kebabs, 2 skewers with 3 cubes of beef. £20 prawns with 4 tiny prawns. £10 potatoes (!!) and there were literally 6 baby potatoes on the plate.
Not only were we feeling highly ripped off for every single item but the service was BAD. The lady got our order so wrong that one completely wrong item was delivered and one was repeatedly missed despite reminding them 3 times. The table of 6 behind us just got up and walked off they were so fed up.
AVOID this place until they sort this out and a lesson to the owners-don’t be so incredibly stingy, the food is good. Just don’t charge £10 for a plate of 6 baby potatoes. Don’t charge £9 for hummus, pricey enough and then give nothing to dip. Dont rip us off with £20 skewers to give such a disgustingly small portion. Thank god we avoided the £30 octopus as I can only imagine it’s one small tentacle with a dollop of sauce. Stop cost cutting and give customers a reason to come back and recommend. Yes they’re in an expensive location and have costs but a few potatoes and bread isn’t going to break the bank. Haven’t felt annoyed like this after visiting a restaurant for as long as I...
