We have been regular visitors to Oxford Cote for many many years, it is our goto restaurant for a guaranteed lovely meal, nice venue pleasant staff and a nice evening. We have used it for all occasions, random off the cuff meal, breakfast, brunch, celebrations, theatre dinners and always been very pleased. However all that changed today. The restuarant was cold, the meal took over 20 mins to arrive no explanation no warning no interaction. Stale sliced french bread served on the table. A table left behing us as we sat down, and we sat looking at the dirty plates all of our visit. DIrty tray left on the table next to it. We ordered 2 x diet pepsi no ice or lemon. When it arrived we were told in portugal everyone likes ice, so we had ice!! All of this in mind there were only a maximum of 25 people in the place, so it wasnt busy and we saw plenty of staff. After we had eaten our meal a lady regular clothes and blonde hair i think, asked us if everything was ok. We explained that the Pork Belly dish itself was nice but everything else this as above was not. We asked if it was been run by new managment, we were told no, we asked if there was a problem with us ordering we were told no but in not a friendly manner or with any further detail. WE got our coats and went to pay, where we told our 2 pepsi had been removed from the bill as a gesture of good will. We said we were happy to pay for these as there was nothing wrong with the drink but asked again if there was a problem in the Oxford Branch, as last week we ate in the Henley Branch and had a wonderful meal as we have always had in the past. No we were told. Sad to say, but this is no longer the place to go in Oxford if you require a friendly warm sociable professional place to eat. Oxford Cotes you have left us feeling very sad. We then went for coffee and pudding in a local restaurant very close by and enjoyed this more than our meal! such a shame after many years of...
Read moreCote really has gone downhill, booked for my birthday with my wife and daughter who has Coeliac disease, we clearly noted this on the booking, arrived at the restaurant waited inside a cramped entrance and were ignored for approximately 10 minutes. Eventually seated in a room off the main restaurant with an extremely noisy table of eight where we literally could not hear ourselves think! We couldnt even hear what the waitress was saying much to her annoyance, my daughter wanted steak to subsequently be told they didn’t have any and the only option was ribeye which was more expensive and didn’t come with the choice of accompaniment she wanted, the waitress had to go and ask her manager if the could accommodate her choice to which they agreed but felt as if it was more of a favour than actually offering a service. Because of the noise from the party of eight I asked if we could move to a different table on two occasions both times this was declined, after a few more minutes we decided enough was enough and we wanted to leave by this time we had already had drinks and our starter, I went to the reception desk and said we were not happy and was presented with a bill for £35! Which I of course refused to pay given the appalling service to which the unapologetic manager reluctantly agreed. We left the restaurant and found an amazing Thai restaurant opposite where we received amazing service and lovely food and had a thoroughly enjoyable meal. Having previously had excellent meals and service at Cote in Bournemouth this experience has meant that we will never return, maybe the staff should visit the Thai restaurant opposite to see what great service is really like and learn a...
Read moreThe food was great but the service from the waiter responsible for our table was terrible. I ordered dessert at the beginning when I also ordered a starter and a main course. For some reason, the waiter didn't inform the kitchen about the dessert and apparently forgot about it later, because I was given a dessert menu after I finished my main course. When he came to ask whether I had chosen a dessert, I told him I had already ordered it. However, I also ordered tea at this point. When he then brought the tea, I asked him whether the dessert was coming. He said that he had checked and that no dessert had been ordered. I told him that he himself had confirmed my order. He then said that if I had ordered dessert, it wasn't with him. When I insisted, he checked, found the dessert on his tablet, and realized he hadn't sent the full order to the kitchen. He had forgotten everything and tried to make a fool of me. Meanwhile, he also forgot my father's ketchup, even though he himself asked him whether he wanted a sauce. However, once we expressed our dissatisfaction, we were compensated with an appropriate discount and an apology from another waiter. The problem was thus very favourably agreed and I did not leave upset. In fact, I was very pleasantly surprised. It is not important whether a waiter at a restaurant offers bad service as long as the restaurant doesn't endorse it and remedies the problem courteously. I would...
