Enjoy the flavours of the East at East Z East
With all the cuisines currently available, it’s sometimes easy to forget about the curry classics. EastZEast is definitely a classic that has been providing traditional desi food for many years. They are based in multiple locations around Manchester and we visited the Riverside Branch with the Bollywood classics playing and sultry setup.
Appetisers began with poppadoms and a pickle tray - Usually we wouldn’t have this as it fills us up and doesn’t leave space for the good stuff. However, on this occasion we had a blast from the past with the pickle tray at EastZEast and it was flawless. Fresh crispy poppadoms and a selection of pickles and chutney to please everyone. We enjoyed the onions, the mango chutney etc, but the lime pickle is also worthy of a mention.
We decided to have a mixture of more common dishes with the less common to give a balanced view on the place. For starters; \Lamb Chops [£5.95] - Not asianified at all, with tender meat coated in spices that were distinct but not overpowering \Masala Fish [£5.95] - Flaky fish covered in a crispy batter, and was like a bigger version of a fish pakora that you get at an asian wedding...yummy \Bengan Pakora [£3.95] - A little plain, and understand that they were trying something new with this aubergine in batter and fried. Dip it in a sauce of your choice and it makes it that much better
And then onto the mains of roti and rice with; \Lamb Shank Nihari [£13.95] - Oh, so spicy and oh, so tasty. It was cooked really well with the meat falling off the bone and the soup made of rich flavours. This is definitely one of our recommended dishes \Lahori Murgha [£10.95] - This was just as good and was the perfect recommendation from the waiter. Although it’s cooked on the bone making it more fiddly to eat, the dish had a fresh tomato based base. It was fresh and it was filling \Sarson-da-Saag [£8.95] - This was a bit meh but worked well to complement the other dishes. We don’t think it’d do well as someone’s full meal and it was quite blended so order it completely mild and perfect for the children who want a spinach puree.
Our mocktails of the night were picked by the waiters and we were provided with a Strawberry Mojito and a Passion Fruit Mocktail [£5.95 each]. Fancy little drinks that were filled with fruit. Something for you all to remember - they have BOGOF on the cocktails/ mocktails before 7pm, so all the more reason to get there early.
Now for the sweet endings of; \Flourless Chocolate Torte (gf) [£5.50] - Perfect for those who require gluten free and for those who don’t. Rich, dark and gooey - this is pure indulgence \Gajar Halva [£3.95] - Authentic, sugary and warm. A true desi dessert
We usually visit East Z East with a big family group, and we’re likely to be back

We didn’t have a reservation, which wasn’t a problem. We arrived, had a drink from the bar, and was shown to our table quickly. We were made to feel so welcome from the moment we walked in.
The service was superb… Wasime (apologies of I have spelt your name wrong), was superb. Attentive, informative, and an absolute pleasure to speak to.
We were looking for recommendations from the menu, rather than going for the usual ’original’ Indian dishes. Wasime brought over his manager, who discussed with us what we wanted, and recommended dishes for each of us… we didn’t really know what we were going to receive…
Whilst waiting for our mains, we ordered some popadoms and pickles for the table, which to our surprise, the pickles were above the ordinary 4 pickles you’d normally receive… absolute perfection!
When our main meals arrived, we were delivered a taste sensation. Fresh ingredients, fresh spices tantalising our taste buds. All delivered with superb service.
The quality of the food was amazing, and the value for money was excellent.
We spoke to the Manager and the Owner to express our gratitude for such a wonderful experience!
Honestly the best Indian food we have ever tasted, all made better with the whole experience service and surroundings. Can’t wait until you open a restaurant in Hull, with Wasime as your head of staff!
Keep up the fabulous work guys. We will be back the next time we visit Manchester!
With Love, Lesley, Glynis,...
Read moreCame here last night with my sister and cousins. When you come in, you're greeted by someone, and at first, it looks like the place is dead, but the main restaurant area is downstairs. The place looked very nice, aesthetically pleasing, and really fancy. We were seated in the corner on a big table, which was a bit weird for a group of 5 people. Had to shout to talk to each other. When we were seated, I felt like we were rushed to put our orders in. They kept coming up to us and asking, which was kind of annoying. After taking our drinks order, the guy said he'll take our order for the food when he gets back not a minute had passed and some other guy comes to take our food order so we were totally flustered and ordered whatever because we felt rushed. Ordered Chicken Boti tikka and mixed kebab for starters, and then 4 curries for mains. Lamb balti, Chicken and Lamb Balti, Chicken Rogan Josh, and Chicken Madras. We asked the waiter how big the naan was, and all he kept saying was standard size, and what exactly is standard size? 😒 Anyway, we ordered 3 naan initially but had to get 2 more and ordered 2 pilau which were small portions, ordered an extra one during our meal. We asked for all the curries to be asian style, but only one had a kick to it. Both the baltis were really bland, and I literally couldn't tell it was lamb. The Chicken Madras was on point, though. I guess this place is good for a one-time thing and I don't regret going but I don't think I'll go again...
