I walked in and could immediately smell the goodness in the air. It's a tiny place, but my wife and I got a seat (came in about 11:30.) There is also a nice shaded area outside to eat, though we didn't think of that until we were leaving and saw people eating there. I keep a log of where I have eaten Reubens, to include pictures, and reviews of them. I do that because I kept asking my wife, and myself, if I have had the ruben at any given place, and now I just check the log in my phone. Which brings me to the Duke City Ruben at Bocadillos, it was Amazing!! The guy at the register was very nice. I heard him explain to the person in front us that they are all local, which I like. Our food came out pretty quickly and my Ruben was steaming, literally. I was so excited I started eating it right away, before I took a picture of it. It was delicious. It was a bit different from the typical Ruben, as they include chipotle 1000 island, which makes it very good. The corned beef was tender, hot, and juicy. The lite rye was slightly cripsy on the outside and soft in the middle. This is definitely in my top 3 rubens I've ever eaten (2 were ones I ate in Hawaii.) My wife had the 505 Philly, another homerun with the meat and bread! Soft, juicy, and flavorful. She ordered it with no veggies, but I took a bite and it didn't matter. As I said, the place was tiny, but I don't know how they keep that much flavor in a small place, but kudos Bocadillos!! I will definitely go back to try the...
Read moreWell, I live downtown--but was willing to travel across the Duke City to find the best Ruben sandwich. Luckily, my research led me here...and it's centrally located. It's walk-up right now and located inside the Wells Fargo bank building, but I had no problem finding parking or figuring out what I wanted.
Here's the thing though, I also love Cuban sandwiches. They have a Ruben, a Cuban, and then a hybrid sandwich named "The Cuban Named Ruben". This is what I had. And will have again and again until I get diabetes. It is off the charts good!
Perfectly buttered and grilled toast start the indulgence--then, that slow roasted corned beef and pork, bacon, red onion, and house made kraut. Oh, and the pickles, some kind of sweet chili sauce and their rendering of a chipotle 1000 dressing, finished with melted asadero and muenster cheese.
This sandwich was no joke. I'm fatter for having known you!

Read moreThis was my first time at this place. I ordered the 505 Philly, which was slow roasted beef, pickled bell peppers, portabella mushrooms, green chile, and cheese (can't remember what kind). The sandwich was great. It was huge, I couldn't eat it all. A friend had the TnA (turkey and avocado with an apple chutney) and she ate her whole sandwich. She liked it :-).
We shared two sides, the chipotle potato salad and the tomato artichoke salad. The chipotle potato salad tasted funny. I would not get that again. The tomato and artichoke salad was good, however it was made with whole baby tomatoes and I would have prefered cut up tomatoes instead of having to pop a whole tomato in my mouth. The only other option for a side is potato chips. When I go back I'll just get the chips.
The staff was friendly and brought us our order where we were sitting in the...
