Hello fellow espresso drinkers! My husband and I are visiting the SW from Seattle. This coffee house looks like a typical spot in the Pacific NW. We go to these spots for coffee, for espresso specifically. A nibble of decent food is just a bonus. The only place you will go in the NW and feel "welcomed" is Starbucks because corporate makes them greet everyone, but a serious barista will be focused on the pull of your addiction, not whether you are feeling appreciated for your patronage. Also, I am noticing while drinking espresso here-and-there around the SW, the pull is "weaker" tasting than Seattle because roasters seem to be roasting lighter, more acidic or "fruity" noted beans. In Seattle, some coffee roasters do a really "burnt" roast, a very dark roasted bean some call French or Italian roast. It tends to make a more bitter espresso, but some folks really like that. I prefer something roasted dark, with "chocolatey" notes. So...what I'm trying to say is while this lighter roast isn't my preference, I have enjoyed trying a variety of coffee houses down here, and if you're a person who will swill anything with caffeine content, or perhaps you are simply looking for lunch, this coffeehouse may not be...
Read moreThe star of VM is the coffee. Other coffee shops either try too hard and supply mid coffee, or try not hard enough with an underrated collection. VM has an industrial look with a warm ish interior, brought together by the soft browns in the chairs and walls. The glass storefront is nice, providing views of warehouses and cracked roads, with just a hint of mountain.
I had the hot chocolate, a milk based, very hot concoction. The wide lipped mug descended layer after layer of whipped cream into the hot chocolate, providing a smooth drink all the way through. I didn't see what they used to bring in the flavor, but the wait time suggested melted chocolate. With the loss of Buds n Beans Cafe, I believe VM brawls The Brew for downtown's best hot chocolate, although the competition for the area is fierce.
It would be criminal to walk into this place without grabbing a chocolate crossiant. They're flakier than a first date, full of rich flavor without packing in too much chocolate, and fairly priced....
Read moreUpdate After speaking with the owner I am more than satisfied and will be returning as a customer. Thank you so much for going above and beyond and making things right. We normally order a 5lb bag of coffee from here about once a month. Today my order came as a 1lb bag. I tried calling and no one would answer. I called multiple times. So I paid for delivery, got the wrong item and had to drive down to your store to remedy the situation. When I got there the response was "my bad" and "sorry". I was not reimbursed or compensated in any way for paying for delivery and then having to come back on my own. I feel like because of this situation we are likely not going to order VM products anymore which is sad because we really enjoy their coffee, but I cannot risk an incorrect order like that. (The 1lb bag is almost $100!)
