If I could a ZERO review I would give a the FATTEST ZERO possible. I have never in my life had more horrible service. First when I called in to make a pick up order the son was rushing me off the phone and sounded as if he didn't want to hear my order (that should have been my first indication not to get food here) once I finished my order he just hung up the phone without another word or letting me get another word out. When we arrived to pick up our order he didn't greet us in fact the first thing out of his mouth was "oh we have no more injera" we just looked at him in confusion and we stated that we had a pick up order. He went in the back and got our food and said oh you guys ordered the lamb and I specially said no we ordered the beef. He did not reply. He began calculating our order and my husband proceeded to pay. Again my husband asked him if this was the beef of lamb and he said this is the lamb. And my husband said well we ordered the beef. The son proceeds to the back and said "dad did you cook lamb or beef." He comes back out to us and tries to convince us that we ordered the lamb. He said you guys ordered the lamb on the phone in the one who spoke to you and I said no on the phone YOU asked if I wanted lamb and I said NO I want beef. He then says oh well you should have said something before I charged you there's nothing I can do about it now. I told him I just told you now too that is was beef when you asked if we ordered the lamb. He then tells us that they use the same spices for the lamb and the beef and tried to tell us it tastes the same. My husband said no I don't like the way lamb taste which is why I ordered the beef. He again says there is nothing I can do about it now do you want to talk to my dad. My husband said so you can't make a new one with beef? He said do y'all want to wait? My husband said how long will it take and he says 20-25 minutes (mind you the reason we ordered ahead so we wouldn't have to wait that long) at this point my blood starts boiling so I just leave and my husband tells him it's fine and he leaves behind me. I beg you guys not to eat here just spend the time and go to LA or something the food is better and so is the service at ALL OTHER ETHIOPIAN...
Read moreMy friend and I planned on trying Abyssinia Restaurant a few weeks ago on an early Sunday afternoon. Their website is inactive so therefore, I needed to rely on Yelp and Google for some accurate information regarding their operating hours and their menu. I called the business multiple times randomly during their opening hours but no one ever answers the telephone.
When I checked eight hours prior to our Ethiopian outing at Abyssinia Restaurant, both Yelp and Google did state that they open from 11:30 AM to 9:00 PM on Sundays. However, I decided to call the restaurant at 11:35 AM since I have little faith in businesses and people. I called three times in a roll and the telephone would ring six times and be disconnected by someone. When I checked on Yelp and Google, the operating hours for Sunday, August 29, 2021 was changed to 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM (3.5 hours later than originally stated). Fortunately, I managed to locate another Ethiopian restaurant that was opening for lunch and someone actually picked up the phone to confirm!!!
I decided to contact Abyssinia later that day and spoke with owner. The owner said he changed today’s restaurant hours in the morning because he had to go to church. I mentioned to him that you are modifying hours based on your whim. This is not how you function as a business…just not proper etiquette. He was not apologetic about the last minute change in operating hours. Need I say more??? Abyssinia Restaurant has lost my potential business and I urge potential customers to do away with these business owners who don’t give a damn about customers and business etiquette. Also, based on the negative Yelp reviews, one would expect that the owner would respond, not the case. If the owner lacks concern about his business, how much attention would he have on his...
Read moreStopped in for a first time experience. I called in advance as my entire family has Celiac disease. The man on the phone confirmed they were gluten free. We drove 45 minutes from Azusa. The owner came to our table and I informed her about our previous call and made it clear we cannot eat any gluten (wheat or wheat flour products). When we placed the order she mentioned she could substitute rice. We agreed we wouldn't mind the substitution. At the end of placing the order I had stressed no bread, as she had mentioned that it now contains wheat and is no longer house made. When she realized I was ordering rice for the entire table she told me "maybe you can come back another time, I can make the house made bread, as bread is required for the entire Ethiopian experience." I said yes, I understand, but we cannot have any wheat or wheat flour based products, so we would make do and be perfectly fine with rice, as it cannot be compromised. She walked away and came back fifteen minutes later with a package of bread and asked if we'd had it before and what bread do we eat. Again, I said WE DO NOT EAT BREAD AND I DON'T WANT TO MAKE MY FAMILY SICK. She walked away annoyed. She came back ten minutes later asking for us to return another day to eat it with bread or eat some of the meat dishes. She also asked to call a week in advance and to make sure we remind her, as she tends to forget. At this point our entire experience had been ruined. We got up and walked out. We had four starving children and we're turned off. She had a lazy demeanor and really didn't comprehend the dangers of food allergies. AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! Who knows what the food tastes like and now I think our family has...
