Absolutely wonderful experience! We were in the area on vacation a few months back and we came in about an hour before closing and ended up staying until about 30 minutes after closing talking with the owner. It is a family run restaurant and the atmosphere is great! We had the fried Tilapia- which should be a crime it’s so good, the veggie combo on injera- which had some new flavors for me all of which we enjoyed, and Sambusa- which is like a fried dough with beef or lentils- both of which were great. The best part of everything is that it is cooked fresh (excluding things like the veggie platter toppings and fillings for Sambusa which is stewed to perfection). The service was fantastic, so attentive and helpful. I had this ginger tea, it is strong with ginger flavor but it makes you feel like it is so good for you! I was in vacation in California from North Carolina and ate at so many restaurants all over California during our week stay and this experience stood out to be above all other! They have great vegetarian options and will help you chose if you are unfamiliar with the menu. They were so sweet about frying our fish fresh even though it was close to closing time. They even have traditional American breakfast with some African options as well. Don’t hesitate to give them a try! You will be glad you did! If I ever come back to anywhere close to the area I would drive to see them with...
Read moreWe got the doro wat and veggie combo to go. It was very good! Plenty of food for two people. The dishes were a little spicier than I'm used to for Ethiopian food, but no complaints here. I didn't think it was too spicy, but if you're sensitive you might disagree. The injera is 100% teff, which the owner was proud of--he should be! It was some of the tastiest injera I've had. Most places cut theirs with wheat, which doesn't taste as good to me. They gave us plenty of it, as well--we had enough for the meal.
I didn't see outdoor seating, but we came at the end of the day when they might have been winding down. In any case, they had space outside on a pretty wide sidewalk so I imagine they can have a couple tables out there. I noticed a few grocery type things like fresh whole spices; I'm hoping they start selling their berbere mix eventually.
The people running the place were very nice. Looks like a family--dad running the front, mom cooking in back, and I saw a younger woman as well. They mentioned they opened up just before the COVID lockdowns started happening--talk about bad timing! But I was happy to support their business and had a...
Read moreI usually don’t do reviews but this place definitely deserves a review. We started eating and then said you know what, let’s do a review with a picture. This is our second visit. Let me do a guided review, you place your order with the cashier, they will explain everything to you, go to your table and wait for the delicious meal. Don’t be afraid of ordering something spicy as it is not hot rather than some spices to enhance flavors. I can’t describe how tasty their food is. Whatever you order, is served on tray with a flat bread called injera. And they also give you extra injera to eat your food with.REAL homemade food. You can feel the love. You must try a combo of meat and veggies. It’s a family restaurant. Not a big chain that do freeze and reheat. Fresh and yummy. My kids LOVED it. Staff is super friendly and the lady chef came to our table for a little chat and making sure everything is perfect. Trying to think of something wrong or not good but cannot. If you like to explore and try different cousins like us, then take my review seriously. You WILL...
