We happened to walk upon this restaurant one Saturday a few months ago because other restaurants were at a 50 minute wait. I don't know if it was because we were really hungry or because the place was actually amazing, but we loved it.
This past weekend, when we went to drop off my brother at Naval Academy, we wanted to go back because we had such a great experience. We couldn't remember the name--only that it started with a M. After extensive research, we found the restaurant. We doubted all the bad reviews, and the lower star rating...which was a mistake.
They should be renamed McGarbage. Their manager, Andrew, is very rude, unprofessional, and is the best way for the restaurant to keep losing customers. He McSUCKS.
We were seated without menus at a dirty table. We didn't have silverware either. The cups and plates were dirty and not properly cleaned. My water cup had a leftover food particle in it, so I asked for a different glass. In my second cup, there was a black speck in the water (either a gnat or food?) and on the cup itself there was a piece of carrot caked on the cup. My mom had a red flake or red piece of something that was caked on the inside of her beer cup toward the bottom. My mom asked for the manager and let him know that the cups and plates have not been properly clean. The manager said "Sorry" in an unapologetic tone like he wanted to fight, while glaring at us. He swiped the unfinished beer--and never came back...didn't even offer a new one. He literally just walked away.
Left aghast, I asked our server, Camille, what the manager's name was--and let her know that the beer was unfinished. She said he took it off the tab. Ok...but what about the beer that my mom wanted to ward off a hot stressful day with.
We ordered the $13 crab dip (per suggestions on yelp), the wings (naked), and $9 mussels. The crab dip was ok and the wings were decent (except they gave us a non edible wing as a piece to eat). The mussels were a bit small and flavorless.
Overall, the food fell short. The crappy service and experience with the manager left a bad taste in our mouths. Will NOT be returning. There are many other places where we can take our money to in Annapolis.
If you do happen to come here, ask to be seated in the back room with a tree. It's a lot cooler, brighter, and quieter.
TLDR; the food was ok, but management sucks and our experience was ruined. The plates and cups are not...
Read moreHad my first experience here on NYE. I visit Annapolis often but had never had the opportunity to visit here. As it was NYE, it was crowded but it became uncomfortably so because they really pack it in here and the place isn't that big. It was also a little grungy and very dark. On to the food, the crab dip was really delicious and comes with a lot of bread. If you order one thing here, make it the crab dip. My fiance and I also shared the fish and chips and the seafood sampler. The fish and chips was really crispy on the outside which was good but the inside was really soft, almost rubbery. The fries were actually the best part of that, they were really good and seasoned well. The seafood sampler was OK, I definitely expected a "sampling" but the few oysters, shrimp, mussels, and clams were all very small and only average taste. You seem to pay a lot for very little here. I'm from Maryland so I'm all about seafood but it was just average here. For the drinks, we ordered a few basic cocktails and they were decent but the bartender put a ton of ice in them which really watered them down. I'm used to having cocktails that have been shaken with ice and are already cold so no need for so much ice. For the service, it was decent for how busy it was on NYE, but the server rarely came back and wasn't the best customer service. For the checks, we had a small group of us but we were at different tables and wanted separate checks for the couples and they said they had a policy of no splitting checks. This became very confusing in the end when not only would they not split the checks but they didn't even have items separated by guest, Guest 1, 2 and so on and the line items were generic so hard to tell what was what. Plus there was a mandatory tip on top of everything. Overall, if you are in the area, there's so many better options for restaurants and bars, but if you stop into McGarvey's for the bar atmosphere, definitely get...
Read morethe worst serving ever! ordered a hamburger and waited for more than half an hour, the table next to us finished their meal even though they came after us and ordered after us. and the floor manager didn’t even let me explain what i was trying to say. Worst in the neighborhood for customer service. unfortunately in spite of their bad serving and customer care the meal was ok, we would have like to come back but no thanks.
PS to the floor manager’s reply: One of our order was put in on time when we ordered which was 40min before this whole conversation started. basically forgotten the second order! i asked the waiter where was our other order when we saw the next table got theirs, so she put that second order in when i asked her! and that was as you said 17 minutes before!! when i came in to the check on our food the second time around (that’s the time you and i had talked) First i asked her if we are not getting the burger we should leave because we have an hour drive back and she said ok and said yeah fine, instead of oh let me check on it, and i asked aren’t you going to check on it? so she moved her legs towards the kitchen! so sir(as i said before), you didn’t even listen the whole conversation and just cut me off without even trying to understand! yes the ‘American’ customers were very pleased with their service, they were even asked how their food was etc and now I started to believe with your attitude inside the restaurant as well, you guys don’t like serving foreigners! This was something so small to handle and could say sorry instead of being that rude when we were there and still arguing your wrong doing here as well! THE WORST CUSTOMER...
