What a great restaurant. Looking for somewhere to grab dinner before an event at Maryland Hall, and this place fit the bill being about 0.5 mile walk away. They do have online / advance reservations (available as Dining Room or High Top, which is not explained anywhere so had to call anyways to find them explain that High Top is a bar seat - first I have ever heard that you can reserve a bar stool). Unfortunately, they don't take reservations for the upstairs rooftop dining (but do hold bar stools? really?), so we held a dining room table just to be safe. Walking up at 5:45 on a summer Saturday evening, clearly the rooftop is the place to be with wind sails (sun cover) and string lights. Walking in the "dining room" looked nice and was surprisingly completely empty so we asked the hostess if we could take our reservation upstairs, and she replied that they don't take reservations upstairs and we would need to go and look to see if there is any room (maybe just me, but shouldn't / could the hostess know if they have tables?). The rooftop is accessed via 4-5 flights of stairs, I didn't see any elevators if you need accessible. Roof has great breezes, nice seating, and everyone was instantly helpful and friendly. They bring you a carafe of water and glasses without asking. Decent beer selection and cocktails reasonably spiked. Menu is wonderful and reasonably priced (for downtown Annapolis) with some unique options that you don't see on every restaurant menu. We ordered probably 8 different items off the menu and without exception, every single one was excellent and fairly portioned (ex. $13 rockfish lettuce wraps = 4 wraps). We all agreed we will be back. One minor / trivial complaint, and my only detraction from an all-aboard full 5-stars is that their excellent fries (which is an incredible understatement, these things are amazing) comes with a little small sauce cup that lasted for about 25% of the fries. When we asked for another one, they said each refill of sauce is $0.50. Fine, but really? Is that what we have come to in this casual restaurant where after happily buying many $11 mixed drinks, $13 apps, and $7 fries, you can't give another spoonful of sauce without an upcharge? Boo. Other than that, great place, great service (Christopher was very good), and...
Read moreWe had our wedding ceremony and reception at The Metropolitan and would give Tom (the manager/ our event coordinator), the service staff, the gentleman manning the door, and the bartenders 10 stars if we could! We cannot rave enough about the food (AMAZING!), the service (top notch), or the dedication of everyone involved! Our ceremony was originally to be outside but we got rained out. We called the Metropolitan with 30 minutes notice asking if we would be able to have our ceremony on the second floor. Tom knew there would be a brief break in the rain and said he could get us set up on the rooftop! Our wedding day was not what we imagined and with traffic and weather we ended up quite behind schedule. The Metropolitan really came through for us in being our wedding ceremony location at the last minute! They provided our guests with a great experience and helped us create wonderful memories in spite of the weather! The Metropolitan was able to open the bar to accommodate our guests earlier than anticipated and decorated the venue beautifully. There was a gentleman posted at the second floor door; he was at the door all night opening the door for guests and keeping uninvited guests out, he was terrific! Our guests could not say enough about the bartenders who provided excellent service throughout the night- even in the beginning when all of our guests arrived earlier than anticipated and rushed the bar! Throughout the whole process working with Tom was so easy and enjoyable. He was very thorough, thoughtful, and professional in every aspect. We simply cannot say enough about the Metropolitan and how pleased we were with our wedding day. Everything about our experience was exemplary! We could not be happier with our choice to have our wedding at the Metropolitan and look forward to visiting frequently and of course on our...
Read moreCame here on January 6th for the first time. We were headed to Lighthouse Bistro but they closed early this day. We walked in to Metropolitan and it wasn't very busy. Reviews for here are generally pretty good so we decided to come here and give it a chance.
It took 10 minutes for a waitress to come over and give us water/take additional drink orders after we sat and we had to get her attention to place the order. Since we waited so long we placed our drink and food order at the same time. The cocktails were the best part of the experience. All the waitresses were more interested being on their phones than checking in with customers. There was one point where the hostess and all waitresses were on their phone at the hostess station. We needed more water and had to yell to get their attention.
Food seemed very delayed for the restaurant being so empty. Only a hand full of tables were occupied and a few at the bar. 15 customers total, maybe. I got the breakfast burger, it was good. No complaints really. My partner got the Benedict and a beet salad. The salad was pretty good. The Canadian bacon on the benedict was super dry and tough. The hollandaise sauce didn't taste like hollandaise at all. Very salty and super thick, unlike other hollandaise we've had.
We might give Metropolitan another chance in the future. Maybe sitting at the bar would be better? We really have no interest in table service again with how terrible the service was and how the waitresses were more interested in their phones than checking their tables. Maybe because it was a slow day? Not sure, but as somebody who works in customer service this was a...
