Two words come to mind when describing my experience today at the BIG CHEESE. Rude. Inedible. I first heard of the Big Cheese in December from my Midshipman. I heard from another friend it was a must try... So after 6 months of anticipation I finally found myself downtown and able to stop in. Initially I was very impressed. The women, who was clearly in charge, helped find a safe place for my sons to sit while I looked at the menu. I was very thankful for her help! When I try a new place- I enjoy reading the description of each item. So I set out to read the menu... after a few seconds the women in charge asked me what I would like to order. I thought- how helpful! I described to her what my friend had suggested. (She did not listen.) She quickly pointed me to a popular sandwich and guaranteed I would enjoy it. I did not. I actually didn't even finish it. What I did eat of it was choked down. But- My story does not end there. When she called me forward to pay I began to order fountain drinks. She interrupted me and said, "We are in a hurry- you need to order faster!" I was shocked! I was midsentence in making my order. If I had not been with friends I would have immediately left. But- being polite to those I was with I ordered my drinks. Paid. Chocked down my way over priced DISGUSTING INEDIBLE SANDWICH. Not to mention this disgusting sandwich was NOT what I had been anticipating for 6 months. I will not be returning to try the actual sandwich I went into the shop to try. I will not be recommending this...
Read moreI have never been treated so rudely in a shop before. First of all nothing has a price. I think they just make things up when you check out and hope the customer doesn’t notice. An older woman with a lot of makeup was at the register. I believe that she is one of the owners. She rang up our 3 sandwiches and then added an additional $11 and $2 with no explanation. We received no receipt. She was aggressively confrontational with my midshipman niece as my niece tried to use her account that she’s had there for 4 years. The woman argued with her about her graduation year and then her name. After we paid, the woman refused to let my niece access her remaining balance on her account. The woman told her “We are done! We are even! And I don’t think I like you.!” Who says that to a customer??? We were so upset at how the woman treated us, we will never return (even though my niece still has money on her account). We left in shock after paying almost $50 for 3 sandwiches and spent the next several hours in disbelief rehashing the entire interaction. I later told my midshipman son about the story and he said he has experienced that same aggressive confrontational behavior, from the same woman, more than once. He and his friends refuse to go back. They may have good sandwiches in there, but the way she treated us as customers is absolutely inexcusable. I...
Read moreIncredibly rude and condescending. The old lady who wears too much makeup is a scam artist as well. They can tell who the tourists are as well as the families of incoming plebes to USNA. She will be nice and try to convince you to “open an account” with them so that you can come in whenever for a sandwich. But as soon as you do, the service is horrible. The old lady has been incredibly rude multiple times when I have went in for a sandwich. She gave me an attitude when I told her I was paying with my account and told me to “get out” as soon as the payment was processed. I don’t know how much money is left on the account but I could care less. They can keep it. It is worth not having to deal with her nasty attitude. Don’t fall for the fake face they put on to try and gain your business. There are plenty of other really good restaurants within walking distance of the Big Cheese. Don’t waste your time dealing with them. The other reviews that are positive are from people who have only been there once, or had the pleasure of not interacting...
