Mondo! on the River — Restaurant in Appleton

What a fantastic place! I stumbled upon this place several months ago and decided to check it out. During that visit, David helped me (someone unfamiliar with wine) pick out a wine that has become one of my favorites. I’ve since expanded my palette and become more familiar with the world of wine, and I give lots of credit to David. He knows how to find something that anyone could enjoy, whether you know nothing about wine or know a lot. Curious about that bottle of wine you see on the shelf? Chances are that David has tried it and can give a VERY detailed description of it. David’s passion is also evident in the rest of the staff, as I’ve received some great recommendations from them as well.

In addition to great staff, the store itself is excellent. Mondo specializes in affordable but non-mass produce wines. Nearly every wine sold here isn’t sold at any of the local grocery stores, and most bottles are priced between $10-15 per bottle. Those two factors are what make me buy most of my wine from Mondo.

If you just even remotely like wine, but are looking for a place to where you can talk with friends or sometimes even complete strangers while contimplating the flavors of something good that won't break the bank if you bought a few bottles then you have to go to Mondo. The music is low enough that it can be both enjoyed and still allow for conversation. The videos playing on the TV (with sound off) are a source of conversation in of itself. The owners and staff are great people. The selection is down to earth. Really what more can you want? Food? they have some of that also, it is more snacky, but I'm a bigger guy, so my concept in that area might be skewed . Don't want a glass of wine but been out voted by your friend's? No problem! They also have some beers and a few other spirits, so no excuses. 😁

One thing to note, the wine menu changes often so be sure to scan the QR Code thats at the bar or part of the finish on the tables, which personally I think is pretty ingenious. Maybe someday I'll remember to add some photos to...

Mondo! on the River is a fantastic place to find affordable wines that sometimes branch beyond known varietals. David and Jane's experience lend to a fantastic lineup of wine every time.

Having grown into their new place, my wife and I decided to give the food a try. The menu is both simple and complex, but delicious nonetheless. I tried the mussels and ordered some amazing ala carte cheese options. My wife had the Italian Sammie. I won't spoil the surprise, but they both were amazing. I love the new concept they have going.

Oh, and the views. So much better than College Ave.!!! We visited in the summer a few times. Being able to watch the water flow over the dam and sip some wine is how I want to spend every day.
