Our Saturday evening dinner at Sushi Lovers…. My wife and I met our son for dinner around 6pm, Sushi Lovers is one of his favorite places to eat. 🤔 We were greeted by our server, who unfortunately had extreme bad breath and spit while talking, so looking at them to order was almost unbearable… 💩☠️😷 (they although had a mask covering their chin, so that helped.) 🙃
We got past that part and received our first plates of food. 🍣 The server brought over a few more things and what I thought was a server behind her spilling her tray of drinks, was actually a customer vomiting. 🤮 My son in law had vomit on his arm and shoes; the person across from us had vomit on his shoulder. 🤢 My wife could no longer eat her food at this point and had just started. 🫣 The server was understanding enough to take back the plates that may have also been contaminated (splattered on) to remake them. 👍
The manager/owner then went around to every table to let us all know— it was not the food that made this customer puke. (Thank God) It was actually that this young customer had sake for the first time and couldn’t handle it. 😵💫
We then asked if we could take my wife’s plates off the bill, since she had two bites and her appetite was gone. The manager/owner said, “well, someone else at the table can eat it.“ 🥴
A little later our server came back over to let us know what the manager/owner had decided to offer us 25% off. (Seems close to what we ask for) 🤥 In reality everyone in close proximity should have had their meal covered by management ☝️ All in all it was an evening to remember and we won’t be back; no thank you! 🤯 Follow me for more safe sake drinking warnings and customer service advice; I’ve...
Read moreI have no idea how this place has so many positive reviews. Yuck.
Truly the worst sushi I have ever had..... nothing that they brought out was good. Our first 2 rolls took at least 25 minutes to come out. They were completely doused in sauce and had no flavor outside of the sauce. The fish was minced and mixed with tempura flakes so you couldn’t taste it. We got two fried rolls, which must have frozen and then fried and came out within a few minutes. The rice was SO crunchy and gross. Very inedible. We gave it one last chance and got two more rolls, a spicy tuna and spicy salmon roll. We couldn’t even tell which was which. Fish was exactly the same color, again minced or flattened or something, wasn’t recognizable that it was a piece of fish (it was like someone had alrwady chewed it for us), mixed with so much spicy Mayo and tempura Flakes. I couldn’t decide Which was shrimp and which was tuna..... I pulled out a piece of fish from one of the mystery rolls and it was brown and immediately we could smell It. My boyfriend, who finished the previous rolls as to not waste food, couldn’t even eat either of the rolls. So bad. So gross. My stomach was queasy all night. Such a waste of $50. On top of that, the service was terribly slow and they weren’t even very busy. This is one of the only reviews I have ever written because I am extremely disappointed in the quality, taste and overall experience I had at Sushi Lover. i Highly, highly do...
Read moreTL;DR: great for takeout, good food, possibly poor service in person but great pricing (the two are likely related)
I was genuinely impressed with the food. The raw fish was bright and fresh, the avocado was perfectly ripe yet soft with no noticeable browning, the rice was a good texture and the crab was delicious. Nothing elevated it to being extraordinary, but I have no complaints and it was the best of the sushi places I tried takeout from while visiting Appleton by a reasonable margin (and MUCH cheaper than the second best).
The food was good enough that I'm giving Sushi Lover a 5/5 despite the following complaints.
When I visited in person, it was very busy (a good sign), and I found out it was all you can eat (a bad sign normally). The servers seemed rushed and distracted (understandable but annoying). My drink order was forgotten, and after I reminded the server, I received the wrong type of sake. I requested wasabi 3 times and never received it.
The server did check in regularly, which was appreciated, and the food was just as good as when I'd gotten it delivered, which makes this easily the best all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant I've had the pleasure of visiting.
The restaurant was clean and well lit, with reasonable decor.
Basically if you want good, cheap sushi, this is the place to go - especially for the all you can eat lunch. If you're likely to be frustrated by having drinks forgotten, perhaps get...
