Changed from 5 Star review below to 1 star from 2/13/2022. Soon as I entered the restaurant I noticed a difference in the ambience. Walking to table I noticed how slimey/slippery floor was. Once we got to our table, I bushed the food off my chair and sat down. Went to bathroom. Door didn't lock so hit the guy inside of bathroom with door as he was taking leak. Went to wash up and noticed trash can in bathroom overflowing, looked like truck stop bathroom. Arrived 3 hrs after opening. No way to dry hands, paper towel holder empty. Got pulled pork nachos. Blend, bland, bland pulled pork. I had a piece of the bark, could taste no seasoning or smoke. My catfish was so over cooked it was like Jerry, one side of it was actually like a pork rind. Cornbread was cold and 100% not fresh. Waitress was owners daughter and hostile. Mac and cheese was old. Smothered pork chops took some serious sawing to get through. My buddy's fries were so over cooked he couldn't eat them. Unbelievabably bad dining experience. And before the new owner replies how we should said something. The waitress was already hostile, the place was dirty and the food was terrible. At that point what could be done differently. I was over the moon with this restaurant as you can see my review when it was under the old owners. Zoom in on the cat fish and you can see how over cooked it was Old owners: was a 5 star review We had a really long wait as the place was slammed. It's right next door to the performing arts theater and they were doing 2 performances that night. The atmosphere was relaxing, we didnt mind the wait at all. My wife's from South Carolina and we miss out on Southern comfort food living in WI. I believe we can cover that now after our experience last night. We had a hard time deciding but ended up trying the fried chicken, hot bbq chicken and catfish as our meats. Sides were spicey fries, lemon pepper fries, coleslaw, hushpuppies and mac and cheese. Each meal came with cornbread. Food was absolutely amazing. Best catfish I believe I have ever had. Everything was soooo good. We will be back again on our next trip to Appleton. Owners husband was cool to talk to, everything just fit to make our date night perfect.

Traveling through for work. A local colleague recommended this place as I don’t think there was any soul food places in Appleton, WI. The entire ascetic would lead you to believe that it was black owned but in fact it’s not. Eating soul food my entire life I’m critical of any soul food restaurant. Cluttered, chaotic, but full of blackness which I can appreciate. Service wasn’t great but wasn’t bad at all. Didn’t offer any recommendations or inquire if it was my first time dining here. The food came out hot! Ordered catfish and chicken with 2 sides: Mac and cheese and Red beans and rice. Here’s where authenticity and proximity makes a difference. This is Appleton, WI soul food. Catfish fried too hard and not enough seasoning at all. More breading than meat. The chicken had a unique flavor. It was something they used that I hadn’t tasted in fried chicken before but I couldn’t determine if I liked it or not. However the chicken was old. It wasn’t fried fresh like the fish was. The sides were bad. The Mac and cheese again had something in it that I hadn’t tasted before in Mac and cheese. It tasted like they tried to be different but I didn’t like it. And it was oily. The red beans and rice weren’t cooked down to where it needs to be. Beans need to be cooked down, I didn’t touch them. This is perfect however for where’s it located and the average customer that wants soul food they won’t know the difference or what things are supposed to taste like. I assume if you grew up eating soul food you would need to go to Milwaukee to get something real.

The Cozzy Corner has changed and not for the good. This is so sad. I have told many, many people this is the place to eat but now I don't think I can do that. Caution when ordering family sizes. Just paid for $36 for 16 pcs of chicken a single portion of fries that they called family size and 2 cups of red beans and rice they called family size. Cost 5.99 each When I told them that can't possibly feed a family they gave me another portion of red beans and rice and a second single portion of fries. Beans and rice might work but no way on the fries. I had to go to Tom's Drive for a proper size family fry. After getting home We found out they cheaped out on chicken by giving us 10 wings out of 16 pcs. 1 or 2 breasts and the rest thighs. Now for the quality of the food. The chicken is not like we had in the past. First, is a good thing, it was nice and juicy. But that's where it goes down hill. There were no southern flavors at all. Actually no flavor but the taste of oil. Same goes for the red beans and rice. It had a spicy heat but that was it. Nothing to say I want to eat more of that. In photo of fries Cozzys is on the right Tom's is on the left. Both were 5.99

First off, the service here is slow. Secondly, sometimes you get by passed. It took them 20+ minutes to get us water. At one point, we were the only people without a drink in front of us. We got lucky and sat down right away. We also ordered right away. People that came in 15 and 20 minutes after us got their orders before we did. And there was only 2 of us. So why 5 stars still? The food is excellent. It is worth waiting for. Plus, even with the mixups etc. we were still in and out in less than an hour. Lighten up Francis. This place is BUSY on a weekend evening. The entire time we were seated there were people standing waiting for a seat to open up. And there was a line out the door when we left at 6:30. The food was really good. Original. I wish I lived closer to try everything on the menu. Lastly, a tip. They ran out of hush puppies. At every table, at least one person tried to order the hush puppies and were told they were out. They must be really popular. If you want them, get there early.

The Cozzy Corner features excellent soul food and Southern style comfort food. It's situated in Appleton's downtown area. We agreed that their ribs had the best flavor around. The price also being so reasonable, really makes the case for them. Don't sleep on the waffles either. I am getting one of those every time I go. They are flavor packed and have the most unusual yet amazing texture. Of course, chicken and waffles is the marquee waffle dish, but there's an entire page of other waffle options, (waffoptions). Our server was very helpful, and our food arrived in a timely manner. Presentation and food temperature was spot-on too. Now, the place is in tough shape, but the food definitely makes up for it. While there is some good ambiance, a remodel is still warranted. Can't wait to go back though. Oh yeah, I will get the fried okra again too. It's one of the side choices. Blues music playing in the background helps seal the deal as well. They got the Cozzy cure for my waffle blues.
