Changed from 5 Star review below to 1 star from 2/13/2022.

Soon as I entered the restaurant I noticed a difference in the ambience.

Walking to table I noticed how slimey/slippery floor was. Once we got to our table, I bushed the food off my chair and sat down. Went to bathroom. Door didn't lock so hit the guy inside of bathroom with door as he was taking leak.

Went to wash up and noticed trash can in bathroom overflowing, looked like truck stop bathroom. Arrived 3 hrs after opening. No way to dry hands, paper towel holder empty.

Got pulled pork nachos. Blend, bland, bland pulled pork. I had a piece of the bark, could taste no seasoning or smoke.

My catfish was so over cooked it was like Jerry, one side of it was actually like a pork rind.

Cornbread was cold and 100% not fresh. Waitress was owners daughter and hostile.

Mac and cheese was old. Smothered pork chops took some serious sawing to get through.

My buddy's fries were so over cooked he couldn't eat them.

Unbelievabably bad dining experience. And before the new owner replies how we should said something. The waitress was already hostile, the place was dirty and the food was terrible. At that point what could be done differently.

I was over the moon with this restaurant as you can see my review when it was under the old owners.

Zoom in on the cat fish and you can see how over cooked it was

Old owners: was a 5 star review

We had a really long wait as the place was slammed. It's right next door to the performing arts theater and they were doing 2 performances that night. The atmosphere was relaxing, we didnt mind the wait at all.

My wife's from South Carolina and we miss out on Southern comfort food living in WI. I believe we can cover that now after our experience last night.

We had a hard time deciding but ended up trying the fried chicken, hot bbq chicken and catfish as our meats. Sides were spicey fries, lemon pepper fries, coleslaw, hushpuppies and mac and cheese. Each meal came with cornbread.

Food was absolutely amazing. Best catfish I believe I have ever had. Everything was soooo good.

We will be back again on our next trip to Appleton.

Owners husband was cool to talk to, everything just fit to make our date...

My friends and I had heard wonderful things about this establishment and we were very excited to try it out. We walked in on Sunday night at around 6:45, a full hour an fifteen minutes before closing. We were greeted with a lively atmosphere and great music. Our server sat us at our table and gave us menus to peruse. We had our drinks taken and served right away, and to the restaurant's defense, the kook-aid and sweet tea were both very good. Our server came back to take our orders and had made come comments about hoping no more tables came in so she could go home after a long work week, which is understandable but still unwelcoming. I asked her for a recommendation on what to eat and she suggested red velvet waffles with fried chicken, so I ordered that with a side of mac and cheese and gumbo. My friend Jordan ordered a 2 meat plate with ribs and friend chicken with sides of gumbo, lemon pepper fries, and hush puppies. My other friend Lauren ordered a sweet potato waffle with a side of coleslaw. 30 minutes pass and we're informed that we're waiting for the chicken to be done. 45 minutes pass and Jordan was informed that they don't have ribs, and that he's now expected to order something else. An hour passes and we finally receive our food. The gumbo was edible, the mac and cheese was also fair. The waffle was overcooked, flavorless, and there was almost no way to tell that they were "Red Velvet". The chicken on the inside was also overcooked, and dry. Lauren had a similar issue with her waffles being overcooked and hers were actually hard and breakable instead of soft and fluffy. Jordan, being immeasurably disappointed about the ribs, as he was looking most forward to those, but I digress. He received his food with rice and beans instead of gumbo (which they did rectify immediately, to their credit). The hush puppies were fair. The fries were unevenly seasoned, and at least his chicken was juicy and fair. As for the pulled pork, it was bland but the BBQ sauce was fantastic. We were all highly upset, and rushed to leave before close. Very disappointed and probably...

Update on the owners response: Like I said the food was so bad we didn’t even think it was worth going back. We wouldn’t want our order remade when we can simply take our business elsewhere. I didn’t post my review and expect it to “help me”. I posted my honest review to let others know what they might expect when they order from here. That’s kinda the whole point of posting a public review isn’t it? You can tell by the way the owner responds to negative reviews on here that they’re immature and problematic. They clearly don’t take criticism well, even if they’re in the wrong or have disappointed their own customers. If you don’t believe me go take a look yourself and read some of the owners comments on the negative reviews. Honestly I found it very unprofessional how childish and snarky some of the owners comments were. Just all the more reason not to support a business where the owner has such a nasty attitude.

(Takeout order)Ordered both the spicy fries and Cajun fries, both very bland, cold, and chewy. I could’ve gotten better fries at Popeyes or anywhere else. I usually see fries as a safe option when ordering from somewhere you’ve never ate at before, because honestly who can mess up fries? Well to my disappointment, I was wrong. I love me some Cajun fries, but baby, these were NOT it. The corn bread they gave us was burnt to a crisp, it looked like charcoal. Chicken was mainly soggy, only had one piece out of three that was crispy. Mashed potatoes and gravy were good as well as the gumbo, but everything else was a let down. Really disappointed, this was my first time ordering from here and I don’t think we will ever come back. We live just down the road and didn’t check our food until we were already home inside.. But the food was so bad we didn’t think it was worth the effort to go back and complain. I’d rather just order from somewhere else. Also we ordered over the phone and the customer service...

Traveling through for work. A local colleague recommended this place as I don’t think there was any soul food places in Appleton, WI. The entire ascetic would lead you to believe that it was black owned but in fact it’s not. Eating soul food my entire life I’m critical of any soul food restaurant. Cluttered, chaotic, but full of blackness which I can appreciate. Service wasn’t great but wasn’t bad at all. Didn’t offer any recommendations or inquire if it was my first time dining here. The food came out hot! Ordered catfish and chicken with 2 sides: Mac and cheese and Red beans and rice. Here’s where authenticity and proximity makes a difference. This is Appleton, WI soul food. Catfish fried too hard and not enough seasoning at all. More breading than meat. The chicken had a unique flavor. It was something they used that I hadn’t tasted in fried chicken before but I couldn’t determine if I liked it or not. However the chicken was old. It wasn’t fried fresh like the fish was. The sides were bad. The Mac and cheese again had something in it that I hadn’t tasted before in Mac and cheese. It tasted like they tried to be different but I didn’t like it. And it was oily. The red beans and rice weren’t cooked down to where it needs to be. Beans need to be cooked down, I didn’t touch them. This is perfect however for where’s it located and the average customer that wants soul food they won’t know the difference or what things are supposed to taste like. I assume if you grew up eating soul food you would need to go to Milwaukee to get something real.

The Cozzy Corner has changed and not for the good. This is so sad. I have told many, many people this is the place to eat but now I don't think I can do that. Caution when ordering family sizes. Just paid for $36 for 16 pcs of chicken a single portion of fries that they called family size and 2 cups of red beans and rice they called family size. Cost 5.99 each When I told them that can't possibly feed a family they gave me another portion of red beans and rice and a second single portion of fries. Beans and rice might work but no way on the fries. I had to go to Tom's Drive for a proper size family fry. After getting home We found out they cheaped out on chicken by giving us 10 wings out of 16 pcs. 1 or 2 breasts and the rest thighs. Now for the quality of the food. The chicken is not like we had in the past. First, is a good thing, it was nice and juicy. But that's where it goes down hill. There were no southern flavors at all. Actually no flavor but the taste of oil. Same goes for the red beans and rice. It had a spicy heat but that was it. Nothing to say I want to eat more of that. In photo of fries Cozzys is on the right Tom's is on the left. Both were 5.99
