My girlfriend and I decided to stop in for a much needed drink and some relaxation. We ordered our first round of drinks and a charcuterie plate. My first drink was an IPA and my girlfriend ordered a Pinot Grigio. We were happy with our selections, minus the charcuterie plate, which was reminiscent of airline food—bland, dry, and generally unappealing (it arrived in a prepackaged cardboard tray covered with plastic wrap.) We decided to order another round of drinks. I wanted to try a stout this time, so I went with #5, a bourbon stout. My girlfriend ordered another Pinot. This time, however, only one of us was pleased. I truly disliked my choice. It was definitely a unique and acquired taste. After one sip, I knew it wasn’t worth the $8.00, so I politely told the bartender that I just couldn’t drink it. I even apologized for the inconvenience and asked if I could swap it out for another IPA. To make a longer story longer, he abruptly told me no. I was actually taken aback. I retreated to my seat like a scolded puppy dog when I noticed another bartender approach me; I assumed he was going to override his partner’s decision and offer me another drink. Nope!!! He came over to scold me more by telling me that this beer was this big and mighty award-winning stout (like I care). I guess it’s my fault for not asking for a sample first, but truthfully, I’ve never met a stout I didn’t like, at least until my visit to the Asheville Club. Will I ever return? No!! Will I tell my friends of my experience? Yes!! Shame on a quaint pub for not making a great experience for a...
Read moreLocals don’t like this place, and generally don’t go here. This is a tourist bar. I’m a local asheville musician that’s played here pretty regularly for about two years. The owner has no respect for the local community, nor the musicians he hires. Ive heard too many stories from people that have worked for him regarding his dishonesty and treatment of coworkers. My personal experience involves the owner randomly decided to “fire me” one night because a drunk man was hollering thru the window….and somehow that was my fault, stating that I “bring in streetlife” He also hollered at my guest that was apparently drawing a picture while I was performing. I’ve performed at venues all over the US and in four different countries. I don’t have a problem finding other work…but my experience with Sal (the owner) is that he is unpredictable, unprofessional, and temperamental.
I confronted him about him raising his voice at my guest (who was buying drinks as well) and told him that the way he behaved was unacceptable. He can get his point across, or ask someone to leave, while still maintaining respect, and act in a professional manner. I told him I would leave a bad review on google.
Apparently he told the bartender that I “threatened” him.
I literally told him I would leave a bad review!! When that involves two men, the word threaten usually implies physical violence!! Something I would NEVER do!!! This was my experience at...
Read moreLove getting the espresso martini at the Asheville Club because it’s not a cream heavy espresso martini! It’s a darker, nuttier martini! However, the service was a bit aggressive. It’s always packed in there because it’s a small establishment and typically you have to stand due to limited seating. We’ve been numerous times and have had no issue standing but today we were asked to please find a seat… we looked around and unfortunately there was no seating, so we walked outside in the 25 degree weather to stand at a table. I usually would not be upset, but the frustrating part was that we were standing on the unused side of the bar, not in the way enjoying the drinks we paid for quickly (spent about 5 min standing there along with others also without seating) and were asked to go sit while tables were being occupied by people with empty glasses, making no moves to get more drinks. If you’re going to have the audacity to ask people to find a seat when there are none, then please have the audacity to ask people sitting, not drinking, to please buy a drink or leave. We’re locals who have been here and recommended this places for years, but I...
