My family chose to eat here last night. Everything started out normally, like any other dining experience I've had. The waitress was training someone who was following her around, drink orders, etc. But that was where it ended.
First of all, they brought me a root beer when I ordered Coke. I didn't get too upset about it even though root beer makes me gag. I just thought that they were training. The service was slow so my son took my drink to the bar and got me a Coke.
I decided to try something a little different so I ordered the shrimp chimichangas. The plate comes with three chimichangas, rice and beans. I asked the waitress to substitute fries for the rice and beans, since I was already getting beans in my food and didn't need extra beans. She said okay.
So then the food comes I cut into the first chimichanga and realized that there were no beans in it at all. It was gross.
When the waitress-in-training finally came to check on us, everyone else was mostly finished with their dinners. I told her that there were no beans in it and she replied that she didn't think that beans come in a Chimichanga but that she would double check. She asked if I wanted to have beans brought to me or have something else made, and I told her that I didn't. I said that by the time my food would be served everyone else would be finished so I would rather just return it.
Shortly after that both the waitress and the trainee came out and proceed to explain to me that a Chimichanga is not a burrito because it is deep fried. She further explained that, if beans were added to a chimichanga, they would leak during the frying therefore, they delivered exactly what I had ordered. I told her that I have never, in my life, seen a chimichanga without beans because it is a deep fried burrito. I told her that the menu wasn't clear and that it didn't matter anyway because it was gross and I wasn't going to eat it. She argued for a minute, repeating herself as if I didn't hear her twice the first time. Finally I asked for a menu so that we could clear up the misunderstanding. They went back inside.
They returned a few moments later with Manager, Omar, in tow. Now there were three of them, surrounding our table, our corner-patio table. Instead of deescalating the situation he reiterated several times that this is what a Chimichanga was. He interrupted me every time I spoke to tell me that I was wrong. In addition, the rude waitress and even the trainee continued harping on me.
Finally, my husband interjected and told him that it doesn't matter at this point. He asked Omar to please just remove the plate from our bill and bring us the check.
Omar says, "Well, I'll check with the owner but I don't know if he'll do it since it wasn't something that we did wrong..."
At that point I became very upset and told Omar that I would like to speak with he manager. I had to ask several times and Omar left saying that he wasn't positive that the owner would want to come and speak to us.
The owner, Albino, returned with Omar and took up the argument. Explaining that they had been there for 18 years and have never put beans in their chimichangas. I replied that I had eaten chimichangas in several states and that they always included beans. He conceded that chimichangas are made differently in different places.
I told the owner that his menu wasn't clear and it was clearly just a misunderstanding. I didn't understand why his staff and MANAGER felt the need to confront and blame me when the appropriate response would have been to just apologize and remove from the check. Omar continued to argue with me the entire time, even in front of the owner. Eventually Albino apologize for the misunderstanding and agreed to remove the item from our order. It was SO embarrassing and upsetting to my children. We will never...
Read moreCurrently on a taco tour and this is #42 on the tour. Everything is rated on a 1-5 scale.
I will start by saying this, we unfortunately will not be going back.
Chips and salsa: Chips were thick and warm but did not have any salt. The salsa was chunky and had a really nice heat to it - 4
Lime Margartia on the Rocks: We ordered The Sarape Margarita which comes in a terracotta mug. The size of the margarita was super small and jammed packed with ice. The margarita was really good, but with the amount of liquid you actually get, I don’t think it’s worth $9 - 4
Steak Taco: Flavor: 1 Fullness: 2 Appearance: 1
You cannot order just one taco, they only come in two. In both tacos there was two weird large chunks of weird meat (I removed it from the tacos and have in another picture). The meat of the taco was completely flavorless and was extremely disappointing. I only tried half of one taco and was done.
Chori Pollo: This is chicken and chorizo with cheese sauce and served with tortillas. When the dish was served, there was basically zero cheese sauce on the dish and was extremely small. When asked about the cheese sauce and requesting some to be given, a bowl was provided for $4.50. The cheese sauce from the bowl was then slowly added as eaten. The Chori pollo was good, just poorly made and definitely not worth $19.50 - 3
Service: When we were sat at our table it was dirty and I had to wipe the shredded cheese off the table. It was never cleaned or offered to be cleaned. The server was very timid. She was nice but the service was quite slow. When the cheese sauce issue was addressed, it took at least 8 minutes for some to be delivered. Previously working in food service, it seemed that the cheese sauce with the original order had been scraped with whatever remnants they could get, then when the amount was addressed, they needed to get a new batch. I addressed the issues to the server about the weird meat that was in the tacos as well as the chorri pollo which she said she was sorry and delivered the bill - 2
New Category Management: I requested a manager regarding the $4.50 charge of cheese sauce, which is supposed to be included in the actual meal of the Chori pollo. When the manager, Hector, came out, I explained that we frequent the restaurant regularly and the issues with the chorri pollo. The manager immediately pointed out the cheese sauce in the container (which had been added after the bowl was brought out) and said your cheese sauce is right there. I then informed the manager that I had a photograph of what the meal looked like prior to adding cheese sauce to it, which I then showed. The manager then stated he has the same cook who uses the same spoon and nothing was wrong with the food and continually repeated the same thing over and over again. I then showed the odd meat chunks to the manager and discussed having a standard when serving food. The manager continued to argue, but eventually said he would remove the cheese sauce and tacos from the bill - 1
