Our evening began as an enjoyable experience. We were excited to be there, and extremely pleased Cache Cache could fit us in at such short notice. We shared three appetizers and then had an entree each. Our friend ordered the special $150 NY Wagyu Strip, and unfortunately, it was anything but special or wagyu.
When we expressed our disappointment with the product to the waiter so he could provide feedback to the kitchen without demanding anything else, they told him he could see a menu to order something else; however, we would still have to pay for the meal. After we said that was not necessary and that we just wanted to make sure they realized the product was subpar, the waiter then came out to our table with a raw piece of meat to insinuate our friend was lying and being difficult and that the steak was wagyu just not 'Kobe' which is what they assumed he was expecting. The meat they brought out was different from the piece on the plate. It was gristly, chewy, and like something you would buy in a supermarket. Unfortunately, the rather aggressive retort and display of the meat were quite off-putting, especially after we were not demanding in any sense of the word and it was clear the meat was no good and was not going to be eaten. Unfortunately, this put a significant damper on the evening that was otherwise an amazing one.
Furthermore, after the waiter displayed the raw meat and debated our friend's opinion, we only saw him again to pick up the check. It was very noticeable that a substitute server was assigned to us to clear our dishes after a very prolonged period and then offer us dessert. Once we said, we were done and got the check, our original argumentative waiter came back to collect what I'm sure he thought was a dismal tip for the unfortunate customer service.
We would have liked to give Cache Cache a five but to be honest, we are still shocked at the disappointing customer service - especially in a fine dining restaurant with those...
Read moreI have been coming to Aspen for 30 years, and have dined at Cache Cache before. Over the years, I've had a good meal there once or twice, and have been disappointed more than a few times. At this price point, I expect a higher level of service and quality than Cache Cache delivers. Tonight, for example, I ordered the king crab risotto appetizer for $35. The crab had a fishy flavor, and there were multiple pieces of crab shell in the dish. I mentioned it to the waiter, and he said he would inform the chef. Nobody followed up with me, and there was no adjustment on the check, so I assume the chef was too busy collecting everybody's cash cash to ensure that I was happy and satisfied. My daughter liked her $75 sea bass enter, but my trout milanese was ordinary, and not a very nice presentation. So, overall I would say that Cache Cache is overpriced and inconsistent for the experience, and I won't go back. I have felt ripped off after eating there one too many times. I also ate at Aqualina and Matsuhisa during this visit to Aspen, and while they were equally as expensive (or more so) than Cache Cache, I left satisfied, and felt that the experience was commensurate with the price. Not so at Cache Cache. There are a number of better...
Read moreCache Cache by Name but is no secret it’s one of Aspens Best for nearly 40 years and deserves to be front of Aspen fine dining Scene.
The menu is tried and tested over the decades and there are many favourites dishes that I look forward to going back to.
In the mains the Lamb rack is a must, as is the Osso Bucca and the Pork Cutlet is Huge
I had the special of the day a prawn shrimp Rissottol and having travelled the world I thought it was the best seafood risotto I have ever had and would beat anything I have had in France or Italy. Exquisite as we told Jody the owner who is always there to welcome guests.
The wine list is one of the best in Aspen with amazing wines that are from around the world. I am always happy to treat my self to an old French under the guidance of the expert sommelier Alexandre who has true knowledge of the wines that are in the wine list.
In for a Penny In for a pound when in Aspen but Cache Cache allows you to leave with a memorable experience.
This is my first review of the restaurant after visiting it a few times a year for over 10 years as I was motivated to acknowledge what is a stand out showing the food can still be front and centre in a town where the scene and ambience...
