After a busy day celebrating a birthday. We chose to conclude the evening at Five Church Midtown for the final birthday meal. A stylish and contemporary venue known for its vibrant ambiance and culinary flair. Upon arrival, we were promptly greeted by the hostess and, at our request, seated outside without delay—a pleasant start to what we anticipated would be a memorable dining experience.
Service began efficiently, with both our server and a server assistant arriving quickly to take our appetizer orders. We did notice immediately that the menu had undergone some changes since our last visit—something one of our guests pointed out. Our server confirmed this when asked about several missing items, indicating that the menu had recently been updated.
For starters, we enjoyed the crab dip and a Caesar salad. The dip was flavorful, and the Caesar salad was impressively large—perfect for sharing among a small group. However, just as we wrapped up our appetizers, a sudden rain prompted us to request a move indoors. The transition was smooth and timely, and we were quickly relocated to a comfortable booth.
Entrées arrived approximately 20 minutes later. I ordered the roasted chicken served atop a bed of potato gnocchi and a green herb sauce. My companions selected the fish entrée and the salmon, accompanied by side dishes of Brussels sprouts and whipped mashed potatoes.
The side dishes were the standout of the evening: the Brussels sprouts were fresh, tender, and full of flavor, while the whipped potatoes were smooth, creamy, and needed no enhancements. The fish was well-prepared—moist, delicately seasoned, and beautifully garnished. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for the other dishes.
The roasted chicken was dry and tough, lacking harmony with the gnocchi and accompanying sauce. I requested an additional sauce to help moisten the dish, but ultimately left more than half uneaten. The salmon was also overcooked despite being requested medium-well. It was paired with small, crispy diced potatoes atop the same green sauce, which resulted in a pasty, unbalanced texture that did not complement the salmon.
After expressing our concerns to our server, we were approached by Danielle, the manager on duty. Her demeanor was professional, understanding, and solution-oriented. While we were not seeking any complimentary items—only substitutions—she graciously offered to remake the salmon and substitute the diced potatoes with the whipped variety. She also offered to replace my chicken, though I declined, having already lost my appetite.
To ensure our experience ended on a positive note, Danielle insisted on providing complimentary desserts, including cheesecake and sorbet. While the desserts were not particularly memorable, they were pleasant enough and arrived promptly. Danielle’s attentive follow-up, paired with our server’s professionalism (especially commendable as she appeared to be in training), ensured that we felt heard and appreciated.
In closing, while the culinary execution of some dishes fell short, the level of customer service—especially from Danielle—was exceptional. Her sincere commitment to guest satisfaction salvaged what could have been a disappointing experience. Though I remain unsure about a return visit solely for the food, the service certainly makes a strong case for giving Five Church Midtown...
Read moreWe made reservations for the 5Church Thanksgiving buffet. It was our first experience at the restaurant, and we were impressed! The vibe was upscale casual, there were people in jeans on Thanksgiving and others in suits and fancy dresses.
Our server, Elvis, was an absolute doll. at one point, when I discovered the dessert station was out of apple cider donuts, he actually went to the back and brought more out to refill the station just for me!
The quality of the food was impressive, however, a little inconsistent, but there was such a selection! Something to make everyone happy.
I don’t know what the crowd is like on a usual night at 5Church, but there were whole families here on Thanksgiving, grandparents to babies, lots of folks brought their kids. The buffet was upscale but varied so if you brought your children, they would definitely find enough they’d want to eat as well.
For the grown-ups in your group, 5Church has some excellent craft cocktails. I couldn’t be more complimentary of the Deception in the Garden, the smoothest Herradura tequila with pineapple, pear and lavender - Eden in a glass.
There were several different protein options on the buffet. The prime rib had an excellent rub. It was tender and delicious and I loved the horseradish sauce on the side. If you are a Thanksgiving traditionalist, the turkey was juicy and well seasoned as well. They had some delightfully tangy cranberry sauce that was a delicious garnish for the turkey. On the other hand, the ham was just so-so, a little dry and the warm salmon was very bland.
The buffet of side items was extensive. Salads and charcuterie followed by a smorgasbord of warm items. The bread was very good with the apricot jelly.
Our very favorite item from the buffet was the fried truffle arancini. If you haven’t had this before, it was like balls of creamy fried risotto. SO GOOD! The brussels sprouts were perfectly caramelized, the chorizo stuffing was a slightly spicy treat, loved their deviled eggs and the spanakopita had a lovely crunch and perfectly flavorful filling. Oh! And the lasagna was also really great with lots of cheese and tender noodles.
Lots of hits but also some misses. The fried plantain balls lacked flavor. The broccoli rabe was bitter and stringy. The baked ziti needed more spices. When we first arrived, they had put out a tray of sweet potato casserole with marshmallows. The potatoes were purple, which was an interesting departure, but the texture was odd. Later, they put out a standard sweet potato casserole with marshmallows which was better, but it needed more seasoning as well.
We topped off our meal with a little of everything from the dessert bar! The very best things over there were the bourbon chocolate pecan pie bites, the fresh apple cider donuts, and the matcha ganache tarts - I love something different!
Did we eat too much? Oh yes we did! You are given a two hour time frame to enjoy the Thanksgiving buffet, and if you pace yourself, you’ll need every minute of it.
We basically rolled out of 5Church back to our car. There is a convenient parking deck just behind the restaurant and they validate your ticket so parking is free.
For the service, variety and quality of the food, I’d say it’s definitely worth the $70 per person price tag to enjoy a mess free, stress-free Thanksgiving smorgasbord in such a...
Read moreI rarely give places 5 stars since I’m quite a heavy critic. But let me talk about this spot for a second…
My bf decided to surprise me to a valentines dinner at 5church in (Buckhead), and we had a horrifyingly bad time. Despite this, the manager invited us back with credit to give them another chance. Some of their customers told me that they’re usually great on a regular day service, and this is why I even proceeded to reply them. We chose to have our new reservation in midtown location to change it up.
Parking was a little confusing but we figured it out. It is FREE with validation. Which is a plus. I HATE paying for parking! Entering, we were greeted by great a great host and they were prepared to serve us and give us a better experience that day. We sat, ordered a couple of drinks that were pleasant.
To comment on drink menu, I think they can do better with the options. I feel like they could be more crafty with their cocktails. The cocktail menu seemed bland. But this was not a big deal. I liked their cocktails in Buckhead better.
We ordered the octopus for appetizer and let me tell you… 10/10. The flavors were unique, balanced and I couldn’t stop eating it. One of the best I’ve tried. Temperature, texture and flavor was all there!
We also had the crab cake and grilled branzino. I feel that they undersold the crab cake… if I was a server there, I would absolutely sell that crab cake. I do not think I have ever tasted a better crab cake in my life!! I was skeptical because I’m not into crab cakes and they tend to be more cake than crab but HOLY SH*T. I crave it now. It was pure bliss in a fistful of crab. It was spicy, and flavorful ! I was very happy with it. The branzino was better than most American restaurants I’ve had it in and the sauces and seasoning they had on it was great and flavorful. It tasted Asian and something I’d actually eat from my home country. I hate getting fish in American restaurants because they are almost always bland unless it’s blackened. But this one was great and it came with 2 filets. Wow, talk about good pricing and portion. I hate feeling like I got scammed by portions but this restaurant does it well. We were super full by the end of the meal without spending a mortgage. The meal felt so healthy, and extremely satisfying.
Lastly, they make their desserts in house. I tried their matcha passion fruit mousse. It has custard, soft cake and passion fruit jam in it and it is all encrusted with chocolate coating and nuts. Tell me if I’m wrong? It’s just a guess. But definitely a 10/10 dessert you’d find in any high class bakery. Not too sweet and the portion of everything inside was so well balanced and it did not feel like I should forgo it after dinner just because other desserts can be a bit on the heavier side. Though I should comment, matcha flavor did not come through at all. But nevertheless, a great dessert.
I always Judge a restaurant by asking myself if I’d visit again and the answer is yes. I’d say this restaurant is one of my top spots now. For the price, atmosphere, insanely good manager/service, and chefs creativity, 10/10! Yes yes yes. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to come back and trying...
