Edited Review: long story short I came here with my girlfriend and the bowl she ordered came out without spinach and avocado, which were listed on the menu. The worker explained they ran out of avocados and stopped using spinach in the dish a while back. He offered to make a new bowl with spinach but we were in a rush so we just took it and left a 3 star review. The owner reached out, promised a refund, and offered for us to come back. We did and they honored the refund. So good on them for being a legitimate business.
The food and drinks are very good. I particularly recommend the Big Breakfast Sandwich, it's really good and filling. The specialty iced lattes are flavorful and the peach tea is downright spectacular.
The atmosphere is cozy and pleasant. There's a bookshelf and chess, I could see spending a lot of time here. The service is pleasant, the lady at the register who accepted our refund was very polite about it.
They run their business here well and I recommend stopping by for a breakfast or lunch and a drink. I can't give it 5 stars though. When we went in the second time, spinach was still listed as an ingredient in the egg bowl on the big chalkboard menu. If you're not using it as an ingredient anymore, just erase it. That way people can expect what they're going to get. Once they make that change I'd happily give this place a 5/5 because they...
Read moreWhen I travel, I look for a local spot to have breakfast and coffee on my last day. Just a small tradition of mine. I was really looking forward to the spot on recommendations from friends and other travelers. Unfortunately, my expectations were greatly diminished. I ordered a Cortado, which I was assured that they were able to make even though it wasn’t on the menu. I also ordered the Reg, listed as sausage egg and cheese on a croissant. I received my Cortado about 10 minutes later and it was in a medium coffee cup. I knew right away it was not made correctly. Sure enough it fit the whole cup and overly bitter. Three packets of stevia later and I was able to have a few sips. Then 40 minutes later. Yes 40 minutes later, I decided to ask where my food might be. I wasn’t the only one waiting either. I was told by a different person that they did not know and they were working on it. They didn’t bother even checking. Literally 20 seconds later the food came out. I received a smashed croissant with an overcooked egg and bacon. It all fell apart as soon as I touched it.
The atmosphere is nice. It’s inviting and comfortable. Shame the service, cortado and food were...
Read moreIt shouldn't take 30 minutes to make French Toast. I stayed within sight of the sole employee while properly social distancing. 15 minutes in, I was out of sight for one minute (bathroom break). Upon my return, I asked about my order; she said "Oh I looked for you!" I figured my paid-in-advance order was ready. WRONG! She waited on, and completed orders for, at least 5 more customers, one with a food order, others that required using the blender. Once the cafe was empty, she went in back and, due to the amount of time it took her to return, I assume she finally started and finished my order! My coffee is now cold; no offer for a refill, not even an apology. A sole employee should prioritize orders, even if others have to wait. If Cafe Lucia feels this is not appropriate, then they should remove food items that take longer to prepare. Better yet, hire another employee!! The coffee and the French Toast were delicious, but the wait and lack of any apology killed the experience for me. The incident happened 5/18/20 around 10 am. at the 12th Street...
