I visited, Chillz Restaurant and Bar, on April 26, 2025, as a first-time customer. I was excited to support a local business and specifically a black-owned business. Upon entering the restaurant my friend and I sat at the bar downstairs ordered drinks and started a tab. My friend ordered his drink first so once his drink came out I told the bartender that I wanted to order a lemon drop. At that time the bartender informed us he would be moving to the upstairs bar. Due to the fact that we had already opened a tab with him we decided to move upstairs as well because we wanted to see what the upstairs area looked like. In walking upstairs my friend and I passed the owner who was walking downstairs and the owner greeted us. While waiting upstairs their was a female bartender who was looking in the direction of my friend and I and she saw that my friend already had a drink in his hand and I feel this was her real issue with us. I think she was bothered that we came upstairs and had already started a tab with another bartender from downstairs because at the time we were at this establishment it was not busy. The bartender from downstairs was taking a while to bring my drink so I decided to walk downstairs to see why it was taking so long, and as I walk downstairs the female bartender quickly follows directly behind me and approaches me to tell me that I will have to remove my durag or leave the restaurant. In the process of me walking downstairs the bartender we opened the tab with was walking upstairs and he informed that he was about to make my lemon drop. As he goes to the bar to make my drink I am now approached by the owner who has walked upstairs to tell me I would have to remove my durag. When the owner told me this I told him I would leave the establishment. I want to be clear I have no issue the owner not allowing durags in his business, but my issue is that I should have been informed of this policy as soon as I stepped into the building before me or my friend ordered anything. I encountered several employees including the owner who had no issue with my durag, so I'm very disappointed the owner allowed the bitter female bartender to influence his decision to ask me to remove my durag. Again I have no issue with the owner having a policy of no durags in his establishment as he can run his business as he sees fit, and if he want his business to have a certain aesthetic and class I can totally respect that. The issue that I do have is that if there is a policy of no durags customers should be informed of this right away soon as they enter the building before ordering anything. Since I decided to leave the restaurant my friend did not even get to finish half of his drink, so I paid for my friend's drink and tipped the bartender who served us we left. The sad part is we had four more friends who were in route to Chillz Restaurant and Bar to meet us. However after we told them about our poor experience we decided to go eat and drink somewhere else. As a result of this VERY disappointing experience me or my friends will never patronize this business again, which is a total lost to the business because we all live in the...
Read moreThis was some of the worst customer service i have experienced in a long time! I will continue to support black owned businesses but this place is the reason Black Owned gets such a bad reputation! I come in and get seated and it starts off bad the server comes over and says i’m going to be leaving in abt 30 min so if you all are going to be staying I’m going to have to transfer you to somebody else. I told her then no problem i’m in a hurry myself! I order my hookah after she struggles to tell me what flavors they have! I ask about any specials for National Margarita Day and they are all lost as to what i’m talking about so the owner makes up a special right then and literally yells it across the entire restaurant (DA Ghetto)! i ask about my hookah three times before i get it! I ordered at 6:25pm and didn’t get it until 7pm! There was literally 9 customers in the entire building and 6 of them had already been taken care of so what was the hold up?! I tell the server i have to go can she check on my food she comes back and says it’s abt to come out 10 more minutes go by ask her to cancel my order she says it will be right out another 10 minutes go by and she tells me it’s coming right now we are now an hour in! I tell her i have to go 5 more min no food i tell her i need to cancel my order so split it off so i can pay and leave because it’s now ridiculous she informs the owner he steps to me and ask if it was taking to long i said “yeah it’s been almost an hour” he then aggressively tells me im not gonna talk to him crazy like he wanted to fight me absolutely absurd!! I felt threatened all because their kitchen is slow! it takes the owner and two managers another 10 mins to figure out how to split my food off the check so i pay and leave. Leaving behind my date who is still waiting for her food! She calls me and puts the phone on speaker and allows me to hear the owner continue to talk about me in my absence! Stating how much he weighs and that he’s a man and will not allow nobody to talk to him crazy no matter what it is! This entire experience was trash Black Business Owners if you don’t know how to be professional and have customer service hire someone who does! Just because you own it does not mean you need to be in there! Needless to say it still took another 30 min for my date to finally get her food! I wish you had some negative stars because they need...
Read moreMy food was amazing and my waitress was a sweetheart, however the owner is a nightmare. He verbally assaulted my waitress and then physically assaulted her by punching her in the face repeatedly. Security was standing right there watching and did nothing. The gentleman I was with went outside to help her but was assaulted by the owner as well. To be clear, The gentleman I was with did not touch the owner. The owner saw my friend approach and started assaulting him immediately. Security lied and said that the man who assaulted my friend was not affiliated with the restaurant but followed us to our vehicle and offered us a refund. I briefly spoke with the waitress after she was verbally assaulted just to see if she was OK. That’s when I found out that not only was he her boss but also the owner. Security later tried to say we extorted him even though we paid our bill before we left. He willingly came and offered a refund. The police were called and again the security tried to say we extorted him, even though he willingly offered us a refund. Extortion means by force, and we did not force him to do anything. I’m hoping the young lady is ok and the owner doesn’t have a chance to attack his employees or anyone else ever again. Security just watched like it was an ongoing thing.
