Went to Harold’s Saturday evening for dinner with my sister who flew in to celebrate her birthday. Originally we intended to dine at the vault but silly me forgot to make reservations and the wait time was almost two hours long. When we arrived the first contact was with security who patted me down and checked her purse. When we entered the restaurant the music was so loud you had to scream to talk to the person next to you and it was so small and badly spaced you have to carefully maneuver while walking so you want step on anyone’s shoes or pump into them or their food. No biggie, that’s the atmosphere some people like. It was busy but it looked like most guests had been there long before us and had already been served. They were just lingering around to watch the game. We got seated immediately a waitress cleaned off a table in the corner, handed us menus then disappeared for 40 minutes without even taking our drink orders. I kept looking around making eye contact with several other servers to see if anyone was going to assist us but no one even asked if we’d been helped. I was tempted to leave but we were hungry and I had just paid 20.00 dollars for parking. So finally I just got up and walked to the register to place our order. When I got there the server at the register asked “who gave us menus” I guess that meant whoever did so was suppose to be our server. While the girl who gave us menus was sitting behind her on the phone smoking hookah. She told her that we were ready to order and the girl came and took my order at the registers. I ordered two dinners and two sweet teas. She tried to offer Happy hour drinks but I did not want alcohol & I wasn’t sure if my sister wanted any. She then said she will come back to check. I went back to my seat and the girl, who I now understand was our server, came shortly after with our drinks but dropped them off without asking if we wanted to order something from the bar. Luckily neither one of us wanted anything. Shortly after that a guy delivered our food. Took no longer then 10 minutes to get our food once ordered letting me know the kitchen was not busy at all. The food was decent, definitely over priced but at this point I was happy to have something in my stomach. The entire time while eating the server never checked back to see if everything was ok, so of course I couldn’t order a refill on my drink. (Mind you the entire time I’m watching her on her phone and smoking hookah) It wasn’t until I caught her seating other guest that I was able to ask for the check and a Togo bag for my sister. She said sure, sat the other guest, brought me the check (no bag) and went back to smoking hookah, now chatting it up with security. I immediately lost it, ready to go I went to the register and asked the first server I seen to cash me out. When she seen me get up she tried to hurry to our table, no ma’am… Your service is trash and I was so ready to leave this establishment. I paid, left no tip and motioned my sister to leave. Security held the door and as he was holding it for my sister I hear him say, “tell that na to stop leaving you” And which she responded “that’s my brother, not my na”!! Overall definitely WON’T be back and this establishment should check their employees. Zero stars !!! sorry I normally take pics but I was over it. Don’t waste your money...

Lengthy Explanation: I called this Harold’s Sunday 10/01/24 to place a pick up order. First, the music was so loud that the woman taking the order couldn’t properly hear me and made me repeat myself until I was blue in the face. She told me I had to pay over the phone and she gave me a large total that wasn’t making sense and told me the food would be ready in 20 minutes.
I sent my boyfriend in to get the food, he was informed that the card declined (she took the card number wrong over the phone and didn’t ask me to repeat). He used the same card to pay and it worked but he asked about the total because it wasn’t adding up. This woman LIES to him that there is a fee for placing orders over the phone but she lowered the fee a bit for him still. She showed him the ticket receipt that only had the food items on there and explained herself away and she tells him they need 10 more minutes on the food. We waited over an hour for our food after he was told “10 minutes” every 10 minutes. The entire time he was in the building the staff was being so loud and rambunctious that they were making people uncomfortable and they were leaving.
So after we waited an hour for food we grabbed it and went home through with our experience already knowing we would never come back. However, the actual receipt was left in the bag and there it showed that not only did the woman taking orders lie about prices, but SHE COMMITTED FRAUD. Never did she once ask for a tip and when my boyfriend saw the tip screen he pressed “no tip”. However she placed the order as a dine in order and selected gratuity at the highest percent (there was 11%,15%, & 20%). She selected 20% giving herself a $20 tip as well as charging for a drink we never received. We ALSO asked for extra mild sauce and they even went a step lower and gave us cocktail sauce.
I called the wrong Harold’s because I was so upset and this woman had a quiet store. (I suggest if you still want to patronize you go to the other store, but I’m never going to another Harold’s here.I will stick to Chicago.)She informed me they are a chain and they are not even suppose to take orders over the phone and apologized for the fraud and said she would try to help us. It’s Tuesday and I’ve received no correspondence, so I’m leaving this review to warn people and I will be reporting this store for fraud with my card company. We are typically generous tippers but we did not dine in and the service we received was less than subpar. Regardless of if we wanted to tip or not. The woman taking orders has no right to give herself a tip on my card of any amount without my approval let alone $20. STEALING MONEY ON A PATRON’S CARD IS CONSIDERED FRAUD. So, I hope it was worth it.
I would appreciate if management reached out to me to resolve the matter, but they didn’t. I have already contacted my card company making them aware of the situation and advised I was waiting for a response from the manager of the other Harold’s but if no one reaches out after today I will be calling the bank back to report the...
Read moreUpon entering the restaurant we waited in line to order, not knowing we could've sat down and been waited on. When we made it to the counter to order, the female server who would've waited on us, responded to my question when asked "are we able to sit at a table and be waited on?"
We sat down shortly thereafter but the server for our section walked by us for about 15 minutes without even acknowledgement. Keep in mind this was the same server who responded that we could sit at a table and be waited on when we were at the counter.
I signaled the male server for a drink menu and he basically was serving all surrounding tables because the female server was too busy "skinning and grinning" in a male patron's face whilst she was supposed to be serving. Sadly, he was the only patron who received follow up service as well as any type of service because everyone around him was ignored.
The male server who I signaled finally came over and asked had our order been taken because the female server, who gave 90% of her serving time to the male patron, told the male server she thought we had ordered.
Please tell my how we would've ordered if that was not only your section but you answered my question prior to sitting down hoping to order.
The wait time from ordering to receiving your order was a short period. However, I am very disturbed and left with an uneasy feel because even in the midst of everything. SHE NEVER ONCE CAME TO OUT TABLE TO CHECK ON US. She literally went to every table around us doing a follow up, but mainly the guy she found interesting.
I felt bad for the male server because he literally was doing all the work. I was very close to not tipping at all but for the sake of his better customer service, I did.
I could've spoken to a manager but it wasn't worth the energy. I tried to keep my positive disposition even when the other person in my party was beyond disappointed.
If you visit here within the next week and you see a female server with braids/faux locs (whatever hairstyle it was) with a length down her back, REQUEST SOMEONE ELSE, especially if there are "eye candy" male patrons in the restaurant.
Even looking at her serve other customers, she lacks in even the basic of customer service skills. However, it probably was because her attention was on the male patron, who she even sat down to chat with for a couple of minutes.
If she would've equally divided her attention to her other customers, my complaints wouldn't have been as elaborate.
She definitely needs to be retrained.
Oh yes, shout out to the Hookah server being prompt and attentive. Yes, she may only be providing Hookah services while dining in but she did a far better job of acknowledging guest sitting at a table with only menus.
