Kelsey, you are not a good bartender. I'm not sure if we caught you on a "bad night" or if this is how you typically get down. I haven't read all the reviews, but I may be the first to boldly & publicly call you out on how you dismissively operate. From my observation, Kelsey doesn't work well under stress, pressure, or can juggle multi-tasking. Those are good traits of a bartender who can juggle what's thrown at them seamlessly. Excellent bartenders keeps the bar moving and stays on top of everything and don't make excuses for their lackluster performance. I'm not sure if tonight was Kelsey's very first night on the job or if this is how she typically treats her customers. You were beyond inattentive – dismissive, actually. You never gave us our menus. We had to ask the diner to the right of us if she would share her menu with us. So we ended up sharing ONE menu. Not only that, we had to pass down our ONE menu to the young woman who sat to the left of us. She then had to share her menu with her boyfriend. All 4 of us were heavily ignored.
When this same young girl who sat to my left FINALLY got your attention after flagging you down, she ended up sharing tips with you on how to better flow as a bartender. I overheard everything she gently expressed to you. She gave pretty sound advice, and hopefully you listen. The kicker is: the young woman who shared the advice used to work at Hawkers, so I'm pretty sure her advice was spot-on because she was speaking from experience and was trying to help you out, Kelsey, because she saw you struggling -- Hell, we all saw you not doing a good job. But the one good thing you did, Kelsey, was ignore us.
Kelsey, we had to ask for utensils and water multiple times, as well as the young girl who sat to the left of us. It was to the point that we had to grab Will (with the dreadlocks), your co-worker, who ended up giving us our waters. Not only that, but Will even gave us refills. Not once did you check on us to see how we were doing, but Will did. Thank you, Will, for being a ray of light tonight and making sure me, my cousin, as well as the girl who sat to my left (and also her boyfriend) were good to go and taken care of.
Now let me get to the food. This is my second time at Hawkers. I came back because I immensely enjoyed my first time. Service was amazing then, as well as the food. Tonight, I had the chicken lo mein. It was just okay. I've had better lo mein elsewhere. I've had lo mein 10x better at hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurants. Not only that, but you get twice as much at the hole-in-the-walls.
I didn't get any cocktails tonight because I didn't trust Kelsey enough to make it properly. I'm just being honest. This place tonight proved to be a hit-or-miss. I'm big on customer service, especially because I'm paying for it. The staff that a business hires is the face of the company and can make or break a customer's experience. You don't want your customers chalking up their experience by saying something to the effect of, “This place is a hit-or-miss. That's why it wasn't good tonight because so and so wasn't here.” With that being said, I'll never...
Read moreI ate at Hawkers yesterday with my daughter for lunch after picking her up from school. I’ve been to Hawkers in Nashville and had such a great dining experience across the board so I was singing praises to my daughter about it. Especially because I do not live near the area, this visit was a waste of money and time. We both love asian eateries (we love K BBQ as well so we have previous dining experiences with asian cuisine and this did not match at all to the Nashville franchise) The only positive about this place is that it’s located on the beltline. Reason for 3 stars in atmosphere and full length mirror near the restrooms for pictures if that’s your thing. Restrooms were also clean. The food was terrible and probably the worst I’ve ever had with the Chow Faan being the absolute worst. I came for this dish specifically!! The rice was bland and lacked flavor, barely had any chicken in mines, the shrimp also was not good. My daughter’s order had a huge chicken cutlet portion for rice. They could have cut the chicken into smaller cutlets. The chili crisp cucumbers were pretty good. I’ll give them that. The Korean Twice Fried Chicken wings, I’ve had better and they weren’t spicy at all. Probably the best of the worst. The chicken dumplings (pan seared) we sent back bc my daughter stated the texture was too gummy and also lacked flavor, very bland. She ordered the Hot Seoul Chicken Bao Buns and that also lacked flavor and she took a few bites and it was nasty. She loves pickles and even removed the pickle. Whoever the chef was should be replaced by different talent. It tasted like frozen, grocery store bought Chinese food. I spent over $100 (including tip) on a meal for us both and I seriously want my money back for this terrible dining experience. Our waitress was slow, difficult to get her attention even when I told another waitress to send her over. We did transition from outside to inside bc the table we were sat at was not clean and even after wiping it down it was sticky residue left on it attracting bugs to our table. The other tables weren’t as bad with bugs so I was convinced it was the dirty table. Maybe the waitress was annoyed that we moved inside and it reflected in how slow she was servicing us. Shouldn’t have been an issue. It was a waste of money and I didn’t want to be rude and leave the food barely eaten on the table so I packed up. Took forever for the waitress to check us out and I was over it and ready to leave. If the manager is reading this, I will not return because the food was just that bad but I would like a full or partial...
Read moreToday I was discriminated against! When I arrived with my young niece, the guy standing at the front said that he would get someone to help me as he was walking off to talk to people next to the kitchen. I stood and watched him play around while I waited. Finally a young lady came to assist. As I told her i would like to sit outside I heard one of the servers say something about his tables but I could not make it out clearly. (I felt he stated he didn’t want me at his table) She sat me down and I got myself and my 8month old niece comfortable. After about 4 minutes I received a phone call. 12 minutes passed by and there was a table sat right across from mine. So i waited some more and watched. 2minutes later they were greeted!!!! So basically I sat at my table for 14minutes and no 1 greeted me. Not 1 server that saw me sitting there clearly, asked if I had been helped they just walked by me and said nothing! The table that was greeted b4 me was a Caucasian man and an Asian man. One of The servers that greeted them and overlooked me was apart of the LBGT community with lots of tattoos. Another server that overlooked me was a Caucasian women. I watched them pass me for 14minutes and the couple that sat across from me was greeted in 2minutes. Now i strongly feel it was because i am an African American female with an 8month old African American niece, whom they assumed I was probably a black single mom and didn’t want to be bothered! It was not busy enough to overlook me but greet a white/asian couple right away! 14minutes i sat there and no one said anything to me!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve worked in the service industry all my life and little did that male server know (that looked at me serval times) I take care of people well in this industry. I asked to speak with the manager after i stood up and said am I invisible, that’s when the lady server came to me…he came and I explained what happened. He was kind, apologized, and made me feel better but I have a sour taste in my mouth now and will NEVER return and i will tell my friends and family not to either. Both servers need to be fired! For discriminating against me and judging a book...
