I had happened by Guac Y Margy, or GYM for short, while strolling the beltline around a week ago. Even from the pavement, the atmosphere pulls you in - radiating a certain energy from the packed patio, it undeniably piques your interest. Fast forward to a week later, my girlfriend and I decided to go for a jog, deciding to visit that spot that I happened upon by chance; Unbeknownst was the beltline icon that we would walk into.
We walked in to a symphony of sounds, sights and smells - a playlist blasting the Real Housewives theme song with the patrons singing along, tacos and guac at every table, and a wonderfully bright, uplifting and positive decor. After sitting at the bar, we were left without a doubt that the experience of being a part of the environment here demonstrated the value of being a patron:
The proprietors stated they decided to go into this business for their own enjoyment, and it shows - that sense of joy and wonderment is translated to the patrons through the upbeat and positive wait staff, the locally oriented artwork (100% contributions go to the artists), and their cultivation of a positive atmosphere through the owners’ personal interaction with their customers The Trivia nights are 1000% worth the ticket cost. We ran by at the end of a session, and by golly was it incredibly energized. The $20 fee includes 2 tacos ($5/each, and a marg ~$10), so you come out net even, but thanks to the incredible energy of the patrons encouraged by the staff you come away with a very memorable evening! Support a local business working to make a difference with those that live close by! The attitude of the owners was incredibly engaging as they worked directly behind the bar.
While I lack any professional food reviewing clout, I can heartily say that I enjoyed the fare - but the true selling point was the incredible atmosphere you instantly become a part of as soon as you walk in the door. I grew up in Atlanta, and there are only a handful of places in the city that make you feel so welcomed and a part of the crew - GYM not only manages to do this, but also infuses fun, communal support, and general LITness into the mix. I’m a customer for life now.
Excitedly...
Read moreStopped here last Sat 4/30/22 around 745p. We found it by driving around the Red Light Cafe where we had tickets for a 9pm. Was given a QR code at hostess table and told to order at end of the bar. So we sat figured out what we wanted to drink and eat. Then got up and stepped in line. I waited about 10mins in line. No problem. Ordered a premium top shelf margarita that was served in a 7.5oz plastic cup (smallest $18 margarita!) And we ordered a vodka cranberry with a double lime. Not a double shot vodka cranberry which came in 32oz soup food container. Not generally something one expects to drink from. Odd really odd. Food.. ordered 2 beef tacos 1 burrito and 1 order of nachos. And a side of guac. Tab $99 and change which you pay when you order. So tip is paid in advance as well. $120 cash paid. They were not packed. Only one other gent sitting at the bar. I was surprised at the size of the drinks but not bothered at the mix up. Atmosphere was ok. Clearly gay friendly which is a plus. And only reason i am giving it a 2 star. Food arrived separately...all of it. Tacos 🌮 were tasteless. The meat was bland and shells werent warmed. Therefore split on the bottom as soon as i picked it up! Most of it fell out. The burrito i asked for it as it comes minus the rice. It came char burned on the outside. I am guessing the rice is the main ingredient since it came without it as requested... the inside had little to no food. Nachos were ok. However, $13 fully loaded meant "a bag of chips" and ton of guac. Small servings of other ingredients. Honestly taco bell has better food. I was hoping it would be amazing since the prices seemed a bit high even for midtown. Which is the location were at. * nachos came protein +2 (asked for beef and chorizo and was told they didn't have chorizo for nachos) odd since its an item on the menu. Asked for side of guac with my tacos and it came 1st with a mound of chips we didnt order. Told waitress we didn't order chips and quac. She made it seem like it was automatic when ordering guac. Since i didnt get an itemized receipt i have no idea what the guy rang up. We will not be back...
Read moreMy friends and I visited the beltline location on 8/8/2025 and while the food was good, the customer service was lack luster! 3 of us ordered tacos only to receive them without any sides. When I questioned the clerk/cashier who had also brought our food to the table about whether our meal came with rice , his response was “you gotta ask for it” I then stated does it cost an additional fee, he said “no, it comes with the meal you can select either rice or beans but you have to ask for it when you place your order” naturally my response was “ so you have to specifically request to receive the side items that the meal comes with?” I wanted him to hear how silly it sounds to expect customers who have never been to the establishment ( or any customer) to think to specify that I do indeed want the side items that I’ve paid for!!! Ultimately, I ordered the beans to go along with my meal. My friends and I were perturbed!! Today though, I look up their menu, only to discover that the tacos come with both rice and beans! Not one or the other as suggested! Moral of the story, the customer service was subpar at best! The food was great but we will likely not return because both components are equally important. In addition, we ordered margaritas as well but did not understand that only food would be delivered to our table outside but not drinks. That said, our drinks sat at the bar for an extended period of time unbeknownst to us. After awhile, the cashier did bring them to us and explained that they are not hand delivered. I explained to him that you cannot assume that every customer has dined there before and is thus familiar with this practice. He tried to right his wrong by providing all of us with shots on the house but despite his best efforts it just still wasn’t enough. It was a terrible customer service...
