Despite the reviews, I wanted to give it a chance, to the restaurant. I was tired and my hotel was next door.
I really dislike small tables agains the wall. I was guide to one of those and I immediately request another table. The hostess face showed contrarily and surprise but allowed me to sit in another table. My opinion, I don’t get a discount for sitting against the wall, right!? Them sit me with comfort.
The Seafood Gumbo soup was good in flavor but there was to much rice in the combination, in other words, I would not call it, a soup and was cold!
The artisanal bread basket arrived long after “the soup” missing the lavash and the walnut’s bread, two out five, is to much… my opinion. If the restaurant runs out of bread, give a discount or explain it to the customers.
The main course arrived before I finished the starters, very inconvenient because it rushed me to eat it, afraid of eating it cold.
The Lobster Carbonada, main course, not near acceptable, the plate flavor was loss in the extremely salty and abundant bacon, the lobster “Maine lobster” as per Kevin, the server, was definitely not from Maine. Maine lobster is kind of sweet and delicious. The lobster served in the plate was either previously freezer for to long or raised in a farm.
The dessert, warm butler cake, acceptable but too sweet and the cake was hard.
The check was left at the table before I finish my dessert.
I never had water at the table!!!!
Special thanks to the Asian man that was cleaning the tables, he brought me water before leaving and a small box to carry my breads, so sweet of him. He was so happy when I give him $ ??. He deserves more.
Money is not an issue, my bill was about $88 for just one person, me.
I don’t mind paying for good food, if I get delicious food that I won’t be able to imitate at home and the service is adequate.
Will not recommend this restaurant, unless you never had anything better or don’t order the same I did.
Kevin, offered me a great smile and the manager was nice, they noticed I didn’t eat my main course and after my explanation it was taken out of the bill …but… not water on my table?! The food out of order and cold!? The bill before finishing my desert?! Only a cartoon bag for my bread?! Was he expecting me to just throw the breads in the bag?
Hmmmmmmm🤔… not a good service starting from the hostess disappointed face, not good food, not good experience.
I hope this review help someone in the future and the restaurant to do better. Only good...
Read moreMe and a good friend ran across this place in DTATL. Its seemed like a great spot as the decor and ambiance is very nice. Our problem with "Ray's in the city" came when it was time to meet our server. She seemed very rushed and impatient as if we were taking up her time by dining there. The server was rude didnt ask how we were doing, if we needed menus, have we been here before, nothing even remotely close to customer service. Remind you there were about 8 patrons in the restaurant. After sitting for 15mins with out being greeted we had to ask for a few things like water, and eating utensils, a drink menu etc...once we got a chance to order we were left to eat our food which looked and tasted amazing. I ordered the crab cake with asparagus and mashed potatoes. DELICIOUS!!!! After finishing our meal we sat and talked for a minute, this is when we noticed problem/discrimination part#2 a large group of Latinos came and set down in the both next to us. Their server came up with a smile on his face, excited and friendly. When he came up he greeted the table and asked have you all been here before. The table replied with a no and he then welcomed them to Ray's. He then went on to explain to them what kind of restaurant Ray's was, what they offer etc... apparently there is a whole spill Ray's does when your a first time patron..I felt completely left out I even told my friend "I want to go sit at their table" as I was trying to overhear the waitress spill . I'm not sure if the color of your skin determines what type of service you receive at "Ray's in the city" or if you even get greeted at all, but that day it certainly seemed like it. My friend and I are African American Iraq war vets, who have served and protected our country and every race in it. It makes me sick to my stomach that we still get stereotyped because of our skin color. I'm sure when they took our African American $200 money its was to their liking. Long story short, if you looking for a fun night on that town with good food and great customer service and money isn't an option go somewhere else. Because "Ray's in the city"...
Read moreI experienced Rays in the city on January 8 2025 with a friend for her friend's birthday. First and foremost, the atmosphere is beautiful, quiet, and has great energy. That was not enough to carry out my very bad visit. My server, a bald black man did not listen to me whatsoever. It honestly brought me to tears in the restaurant and made me feel unheard, ignored and stereotyped. I wanted the barbecue shrimp grit dish, but instead of the grit cake I requested creamy grits. Mind you me and the rest of the party explained that to him verbatim, but this man kept telling me that it is not what I wanted and he can give me the fried shrimp dish. I promise you guys I told him, you are not listening to my requests and this is frustrating. He then goes on to tell me that he is and just trust him. He then brings out the dish that i was not asking for and i immediately asked him to take it back. He takes it back with an attitude and i hear the staff whispering about me. I hated my experience here. I genuinely think he lacks comprehension skills. Or he simply did not have the (How can i ) attitude. More like ( i know best what you like) attitude. When in fact we are TWO different people with two different palates. Also, The glassware was dirty as well. Had chunks of food at the base of the glass and was extremely sticky. For future references, please do not tell people what they want and allow them to tell you what they want and FOLLOW through. Esp if it is super reasonable. They also still charged me for the dish and out of spite this man was not treating me well on my exit. He brought bags for the guests that was with me but none for me. The waiter then said he would be bringing me a bag and never showed up. I simply left my not so good Brussel sprouts on the table and went on my merrily way. Ruth Chris or Stk would never EVER allow this to happen. Rays do better. I know what's going on within this franchise and I...
