After checking restaurants around the Atlantic Station area, I decided to go to Toscano for my birthday along my loved one. The place seemed very nice and I was excited, however, as soon as we started to eat things didn’t go so well. To start off, our server was not as attentive to us as other tables she had, which I sort of understood because I look young and I would expect her to think I wouldn’t tip her much and I was a waste of time (which isn’t true, but I’m in the industry myself so I know how servers think). The Calamari as app we ordered was delicious and for our entrees we decided to get Baked Penne and for myself Spiced Chicken Penne. As soon as the food arrived just by the looks of it, it looked amazing the portions were pretty big which I enjoyed, but after tasting it I didn’t really liked my own meal and decided to share the Baked Penne instead. I stopped eating my plate and I cordially called the server to tell her that I didn’t really liked my food and if she could please take it off my check, trying to return my plate as well. The server goes and tells me that she asked me if the food was ok and I said yes (WHICH SHE DID NOT, SHE ONLY ASKED THE TABLE NEXT TO US) therefore, that wouldn’t really be possible and she would need to bring her manager, which I said I would like to speak with. I was met with her manager; a woman that didn’t seem very happy about my request and said to me it was not possible to take the meal off my check since I already ate much off plate (which I didn’t) and also proceeded to say my server asked if the food was ok and I said yes so we couldn’t take it off (which again my server didn’t) and got a very unprofessional attitude with me explaining the plate I ordered was actually one of the bestsellers of the restaurant and she didn’t understand how I didn’t like it. At the end they finally decided to take it off after they both brought me 2 to go boxes when I didn’t even asked for them since I was NOT done eating, I was simply returning the meal I didn’t like so I could enjoy the other one. After this situation the server proceeded to check my out which I found very unpleasant because since it was my birthday I also wanted to eat some sort of dessert but I did not even have the offer to since just by apparently speaking about me not wanting to eat my food was a problem. And not to say right after this I overheard my server asking the table next to me if they would like a dessert menu… Anyway, just a very awful place to go to, specially because the manager doesn’t have any respect for the customers and therefore I won’t be returning or recommending this place to anyone. If you would like better treatment and food quality even Olive Garden would have been a...
Read moreMy husband and I went to Toscano restaurant for a Sunday lunch after an event at Atlantic Station. The restaurant appearance and menu called our attention. We were excited to give it a try. The ambience is nice. However, the service and food experience was not so positive. It started with the drinks. I asked for an unsweet tea, but I received a super super sweet tea. I tried to call our server multiple times to change it, but he was overwhelmed taking care of other tables far away from ours at the other restaurant area. After giving up of raising my hand multiple times, I called other server that was closer cleaning empty tables on our side. It is clear the way they organize the process of which server will attend which table is not good. I received my new unsweet tea, the taste was awful. I tasted the water and it was awful as well. The problem for sure is the tap water they are using. The bread we received as starter is very good. As the main plate, my husband asked for a tomato soup. I asked for the gnocchi with bolognese sauce. Both plates have a very good size but no taste, no seasoning. After finishing, we could not find our server to request for the check. When he arrived, he was on a rush asking if we would like the check. He didn't mind to ask if we enjoyed the food, if we would like anything else, dessert and so on. Of course, we were not in a mood to request anything else, but it is just an example of how they don't care about making you have a good dining experience. When the check came, for our surprise the 18% gratuity was automatically added in the final value despite our party was just 2 people. This for me is a big red flag. I totally agree the automatically gratuity on big parties, like 6+ people. But automatically adding this to everyone, it sounds to me they know they have problem and people will reflect this on...
Read moreMy friend and I popped into Toscana after a performance at the Fox on Sunday. It was a cold, rainy and dreary day, quite the contrary to our experience at Toscana. We sat up front by the window to watch the people and lights in the square. Our host Nathan, made our experience absolutely delightful. He was very attentive, gave lovely suggestions and was more than happy to respond to our questions. The artisanal bread and dipping olive oil brought to the table was delicious. Nathan suggested a wonderful bottle of Bonanza wine, a perfect compliment to our food. We started with some Tapas of fried ravioli and mussels. The mussels were in a light, almost citrusy broth perfect for dipping. The fried ravioli was creamy with a crispy coating, served with a savory marinara dipping sauce. Nathan was very attentive to the pace at which the food was being served, so we had a nice leisurely pace to truly savor our meal. We followed up with the truffle mushroom pizza, a true delight for the pallet. Especially for truffle lovers. We finished with the exquisite Tiramisu and switched to espresso martinis. A sublime combination. We watched Nathan take on a larger party of patrons who showed up a half hour before closing. He served them professionally and was attentive to their needs as it appeared to be a special occasion. They seemed to be quite pleased by the completion of the meal. We were able to squeeze in additional martinis while the party was finishing, and throughout Nathan was attentive until the end. We will be coming back, hope to see Nathan again and enjoy more of the menu as everything looks so alluring! A warm and inviting place to visit. A lovely sample taste...
