Cute gelato shop situated in a clean well-developed area on 5th Street with various businesses, restaurants, and decent foot-traffic. Came by for a quick stop. Seating is available both indoors and outdoors. There is a single bathroom available for guest use.
There are regular gelato portions available in a cup or cone as well as chocolate-dipped gelato on a bar. Free samples are available and I sampled their Stracciatella. It was plain and not overly flavorful. I went for the 3 non-dairy options in a medium cup, which conveniently serves up to 3 flavors: Strawberry, Mango, and Papaya. This came out to around $7.00. All 3 flavors were delicious and fresh. They also had some merchandise available against the wall opposite the register such as t-shirts in different colors. The colors were light and appealing, but I did not see a price for them on the wall or in an obvious location. The material of the shirt did not seem as soft as I had wanted. I did not end up asking about or purchasing one.
I do think the price was a bit high for the portion received as it was flattened to the cup. I've more commonly seen cups served with scoops on top with the different flavors rather than each flavor taking up one-third of the cup each. Overall a positive experience, but I would likely only return if I was...
Read moreI didn't have ultra high expectations given the location in a development, but I left very impressed. The pistachio is the best I've ever had, both in the US and in Italy. It is so rich that it is like eating frozen nut butter, and it's brown (the actual color of pistachio nuts), not green!
I have a culinary background, so I spent some time chatting with the owner to learn more about their methods. It turns out that pistachio's are actually cheaper here than in Italy, and theirs come from an organic farm in California. They use Valrohna 62-70% chocolate in their chocolate items, which is the exact chocolate I would use as well, it's excellent. Even more incredibly, their vanilla is flavored with whole vanilla pods they scrape in house. That's an incredible amount of work and just shocking.
Similarly, they don't use any 'ice cream bases' (starter liquids with many of the ingredients already mixed), they start from milk. For many of the fresh fruit flavors they reduce their own jams. Over all, this is an exceptional place we should all be grateful to have in Austin, and we should support before they realize just how expensive all those ingredients are and raise...
Read moreWhen your sweet tooth is craving for something delicious, look no further than Dolce Neve Gelato.
I've always loved gelato as it's much smoother and has less calories than its ice cream counterpart.
What I got here is: Fromage Blanc & Blueberry: This one is unique because you have the sweet berry flavor blended with a sweet cheese, after all, "fromage blanc" is "white cheese" in French
Chocolate from Ghana: This one is very dense. Full of dark rich chocolate flavor! It contrasts very well with the lighter, creamier Fromage Blanc gelato.
They have a lot more unique flavors to choose from, so I plan to be...
